Patriotic decorations on the front porch for Independence Day

June 29, 2017 by Kim Woodward

I know you’ve been losing sleep wondering if we have decked out our house in red, white and blue this year.

Because while I often profess my love for all things patriotic, I haven’t shared any of our patriotic decorations this summer. I’ve been getting hundreds of frantic emails and phone calls, inquiring about our patriotic decor. (Just kidding. No one has even asked. But I know you care deep-down.)

So in case you are wondering … our home is sufficiently flag-i-fied. It’s been full-out Yankee Doodle Dandy since Memorial Day, thank you very much.

‘Merica.

So as we approach Independence Day next week, I thought today would be a good time to share our patriotic decorations on the front porch. Because this is the first year we’ve had a porch with railings and stairs. (And – truth bomb – it’s also the only area of the house I managed to photograph before my camera went to the repair shop.)

I think flag bunting is one of my favorite items of Americana decor. Indoor or out, it kicks the patriotic decorations up a notch. I pick them up when I see them on sale, because having them outdoors all summer causes a great deal of fading. (I like these tiny ones and these large ones– and they are Made in America.)

A blue and white pillow was added to the red rocking chair. Above that, we hung the DIY United States of America wall hanging.

The flower pots are still going strong – and getting even bigger. Keeping them alive seems to be correlated to watering them every once in a while. Miracle. The wreath on the door was made from red, white and blue bandanas and a foam wreath form.

There’s just something I love about patriotic decorations. I truly enjoy this look all summer long.

This porch with its patriotic décor ought to be a feature in a magazine – it’s terrific !
