A barn that bleeds red, white and blue

June 15, 2015 by Kim Woodward

Our barn practically bleeds America.

If the barn had blood, it would be an actual American flag. And if the barn was a song, it would obviously be “America the Beautiful.”

That’s just truth, friends.

There are a few scientific reasons why the barn is so (red, white and) true blue American:
– It’s a barn. Barns dot the landscape throughout the U.S. and feel so true to the rural roots of much of the country.
– It’s red. Which is one of the three colors of red, white and blue.

Okay. That’s all I’ve got.

Anyway, in the spirit of patriotism, we added some extra touches to the barn for the summer and patriotic holidays.

Now, the barn is simply showing off how amazingly American it is. No one has to check the blood. It’s all out in the open.

I invested in a few new flag buntings for the deck and the garage door. I planned to reuse the ones we had before but I couldn’t find them in the mountains of boxes at my parents’ house. (Another story for another day.) And then I remembered they were really faded and the barn deserved better.

Worth every penny.

The sign outside the door was a pseudo-DIY project inspired by Where the Smiles Have Been. I started with a U.S. cutout I found for around $5 at Kohl’s. It was already planked, so I simply added the red stripes and the vinyl with a design repurposed from Studio Calico.

If you are going to live in a red barn, you gotta embrace that Americana, right?

I just can’t help but love living here.

How are you adding red, white and blue to your home decor this summer?

No one can embrace Americana quite like you. The barn is basically the ace of spades on American decor.

So cute!!! And your barn is 100% American and you are 100% amusing to me. I am loving the united States cutout!! Also, did the barn have a name? I think it should.

You are one lucky lady (in more ways than one, of course)…..I just love this little barn of yours! And I’m super jealous, too. 🙂 All the little details you included are just perfect!
