Porch railings in white

September 14, 2016 by Kim Woodward

I think legit bloggers wait for big befores and after photos to share posts about a project.

In case there is any confusion, I am not a legit blogger. I’m just a real live person living in the middle of nowhere who shares too much on the Internet.

Glad that’s cleared up.

And I’m way excited about the porch and how it’s looking to wait for a real “after.” So here goes … the porch after a little paint.

Over the weekend, I primed everything with Kilz and then we added a coat of white paint (we use semi-gloss finish in Ultra Pure White by Behr for all of our exterior white trim).

It’s going to need another coat of paint, but that’s not happening today and I didn’t want to wait to share.

A lot of you asked if I could keep the rails on our porch wood tone.

Could I? Probably. Did I? Nope.

But we DID finish the ceiling with more planed barn wood, so I feel like you can call that a compromise. I get my white railings and you get your wood tones. I like to keep you happy – even though this is our house. I’m nice like that.

That ceiling is pretty much the thing dreams are made of. It’s just the right contrast to the rest of the white and gray. Oh. And it was free from our barn wood pile.

This project is undoubtably the first of a million more steps on the porch.

Another coat of paint, tons of dirt to level the yard, build stairs, more painting ….. but for now, I’ll just enjoy this view. front-porch-white-railings-barnwood-ceiling4

What kind of wood did you use on your front porch and steps? I love the white and the horizontal slats. So modern looking. Thanks for sharing your journey!

I love this! I admit, I was a little impartial to the nature wood posts, but the white looks amazing and the peek of ceiling is perfect!
And I’m totally with you on being too excited to wait until the ‘real’ reveal. 😊
    Best,
    Kelly

Thanks, Kelly! I think the pictures looked better than real life when it came to white/wood. But it’s coming along!

Love it and you are definitely a legit blogger who lives in a real house and not a McMansion.
