More Americana home decor

June 27, 2016 by Kim Woodward

I can’t leave well enough alone. I just want to American-flag all the things. (Or as Henry says, “Captain America flag” all the things.)

Nothing is safe. Nothing can be un-American.

Moving into the new house at the precise time that I have a valid excuse to cover everything in a layer of red, white and blue is the bomb dot com.

I love this living room. I will never again take for granted the having of a couch.

Amen.

I don’t even regret it when I have to re-fluff the pillows 1,425 times a day. (Is it just me that gets driven to the brink of insanity by messy pillows?)

I had to physically restrain myself from not bringing more than 3 of these flag pillows home (from TJ Maxx, if you want to stalk the pillow aisles yourself). If my cart would have been larger, I would have grabbed more.

I have a problem.

The great part about loving the color red is that you can use your normal decor things to look patriotic and festive. And then I’m all like, “Oh, that old thing? It was just a canister I picked up and plopped a plant inside. No big deal.”

Have we spoken about Ryan’s gram’s hutch? I think not.

I love it beyond words and would probably get rid of anything else in the house before this. It’s just a lovely, hand-built piece. It’s also giant and heavy and will never be moved again. patriotic americana decor newlywoodwards7

The glass on the secretary is the wavy, old glass. It’s not easy to photograph, but trust me when I say it’s filled with all the Americana I could muster. (And also a collection of Ryan’s grandfather’s “Building Estimating and Contracting” books published in 1948.)patriotic americana decor newlywoodwards6
Moving into our dining room … I do so love the red white and blue. I actually have a long flag bunting that I planned to use as a table runner, but it was far too long and I was concerned about cutting it. I don’t know, is that against some law?

Perhaps someday I’ll tire of the red, white and blue. Or perhaps not. I tend to not tire of things as quickly as the internet and calendar tells me I should.

But if I do, you can bet your hippy it will be September and I’ll be obsessed with leaves and acorns and all the fall things.

Until then … AMERICA!

I love your Americana home! I see a peak out the front windows of your American Flag bunting. I’d love to see a picture of the front of your home all decked out red-white-blue.
