Quick porch updates for fall

October 4, 2016 by Kim Woodward

Finish lines are totally overrated.

I used to believe that there was an elusive end to our home projects – but the truth about making your home your own is that there is rarely a true finish line.

Embrace it.

Just because I share photos of my home one week, doesn’t mean it doesn’t change the next week. (Or the next day, much to Ryan’s dismay.) front-porch-fall-decor-pumpkin-topiaries06Because just like decorating for holidays, continually adjusting means you end up with a better home for you. I’m constantly tinkering and rearranging and thinking. And thinking and thinking and thinking.

Are you like that?

I had to scrub the porch this weekend, because it was covered in dirt (from some muddy landscaping projects). While I was doing that, I figured I should just get rid of the straw bale.

It was cute but also super messy and in-the-way. All the pumpkins found new homes elsewhere. 100 percent placement guarantee – we pride ourselves in never laying off a single gourd or pumpkin. No gourds left behind.

And the pumpkin topiaries stayed. Obviously.

And the DIY HARVEST sign.

The door hanger is still there. For now. front-porch-fall-decor-pumpkin-topiaries07
Then, I realized that we could totally put the red rocker from Henry’s nursery on the far end of the porch. I didn’t have a place for it in the house. So, while it’s not technically an outdoor piece, it isn’t doing anyone any good gathering dust in storage. Plus, red and free. Those are two giant checks.

So the porch went from this …

To this …

This little adjustment made me think about lots of other things I’d like to do out here. But I may just let it breathe for a bit. Or I may decorate it all for Halloween now that it’s October?

You just never know with me.

What’s something you could adjust in your home to make it more usable/beautiful/personal?

They were a clearance find at Target! But I’ve seen similar version at the home improvement stores, too. Now is the time to scour the outdoor clearance sections. (Or maybe that’s just me. ;))

Isn’t it amazing what a coat of red paint can do? Love this rocker here!

I was channelling my inner Marty and using what I’ve got. 😉
