Are you one of those people who’s already whizzed past Halloween and Thanksgiving to think about Christmas?
Then, this post isn’t for you.
Because, at the Woodwards, we just realized it’s the week of Halloween. Nobody has costumes. No one has consumed any candy corn or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
It would be a tragedy if we didn’t have a tiny little baby distracting us with her sweetness.
But, over the weekend, Henry and I decided that we’d better get some Halloween decorations out or we’ll miss it entirely for 365 more days. No matter if Hobby Lobby is already selling 4th of July decorations for next year. We are savoring the week of Halloween.
Procrastination or being present? You decide.
After a solid 8 minutes of fun digging through the Halloween box, we stepped back and enjoyed our handiwork. And it was good. Behold – our fun and sweet candy corn mantel.
Because what is Halloween really about if not candy corn? (Hint: Nothing.)
I know that Henry is my child because he doesn’t even question why we would need to swap out the fall mantel decor for Halloween mantel decor. He embraces it.
The distinction was lost on my husband, however.
The DIY candy corn pennants are probably my favorite Halloween decorations. They are unique and quirky and look great year after year.
The candy corn painted art is from last year – it just fits inside the original window from our first home. The script family metal word is from Magnolia.
The pumpkins stuck around from the fall mantel. The Jack-O-Lantern is from Home Depot last year. And Henry stuck the barnwood ghost on top for good measure. Because, more is always more. 
Now that we have the mantel taken care of, we need to acquire the mission-critical things – Halloween candy and costumes.
Because while some are already thinking of Christmas, I refuse to give up on Halloween candy. Priorities, people.
