A candy corn mantel | Dec-O-Ween

October 13, 2016 by Kim Woodward

I have two words for you.

Candy. Corn.

This treat is at top of the list of reasons everyone should love Halloween. Right after Reese’s Pumpkins. I would have gone with a Reese’s Pumpkin theme for the Halloween mantel, but I couldn’t figure out how to dip the entire area in chocolate and peanut butter.

And it sort of seemed like a waste of good chocolate.

So, candy corn it was.

The mantel got a little Halloween update for October. The best part – they were really just a few adjustments and some editing of what was there.

The DIY candy corn pennants were pieced with fabric and then quilted. (Full instructions are here.) I grabbed the bats at the dollar spot. I could have made them, but that would have taken more effort than I currently

Then, I updated the frame with simple candy corn stripes. I just flipped the plywood over for a second look. The best part, I can flip the board to go back to simple neutral stripes.

These Jack O Lanterns are concrete lanterns I picked up at Home Depot. They are also reversible in that the back is just a pumpkin. I like to find items that have a little longevity. I made the Ghosts and Goblins sign a few years ago when I hosted a fundraising sign making workshop with my friend Jen at Onion Grove Mercantile.

I painted the simple leaf on canvas – nothing fancy. The antlers were a wreath from Pier One. I heard that if you don’t have antlers in your fall decor, you are actually kicked off the Internet. It’s law.halloween-mantel-newlywoodwards7

And in case you think I have it all together. This is what happens when I’m taking pictures of the mantel. Shirtless Henry is literally running circles around me at all times.halloween-mantel-newlywoodwards6

It’s a glamorous life I lead.

You know, red carpets. Photo shoots. And shirtless preschoolers.

Love me some candy corn! Your remake of the back of your frame on the mantle is genius. And I love that banner – it’s going in the to do file for sure. Well done!
BTW, the link on you email doesn’t work so I copied and pasted. Just a small thing – no biggie.
Keep on keepin’ it real! Nothing wrong with bare-chested boys. I had two of them and wouldn’t change a thing.

I love the simplicity of the candy corn mantel painting and the bats flying out of the picture is a great touch! Thanks for sharing

That frame is working out wonderfully for the seasons! Love this whole set up. I’ll be over soon for my Reese’s! Seriously. Get them ready.

The mantel looks very festive! Decorating’s not my thing, so our usual bats and ghosts will go up this weekend.
    Enjoy your holiday spirit!

Candy corn colors are so FUN! I love what you did with the frame, two in one is my kind of thing. And Shirtless Henry looks like he just scored a pack of candy corns. 😀 So cute!

I was excited to see how you’d make things even MORE Halloween-y after you already showed off your amazing pumpkin collection….and you did it! I love your leaf painting! Thanks so much for joining in!
