Master bedroom revamp

I was going to share stories about what we did inside. I got through the outside, office, kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom and garage.

 

Then, I forgot to continue. You must have forgotten, too (or was just hoping I would stop). But, now I’m going to try to finish up the last of the rooms upstairs so you get a full picture. Stop “booing”… it will be fun.

It’s time for our “master” bedroom. I put master in quotes because it wasn’t really masterly at all when we took possession of the house in 2007.

The upstairs was originally an attic. At some point, the owners made it into three small bedrooms and put some dormers in. The bedroom has two rather large windows. The ceilings are a little low, but otherwise, it’s a decent space.

The bedroom itself was dirty and greasy… like everything else in the house. This room is also when we noticed that there were tons of beads, the small plastic beads that little girls would string onto friendship bracelets. It was this discovery that helped us learn that the house used to be a daycare. Can you imagine dropping your kids off at this place?
I wouldn’t have even been crazy enough to walk through this house without shoes on (which is essentially my own litmus test for livability). Heck, a mask and gloves were probably a good idea with all the nastiness. So, that made us a little sad that kids were cared for here. But, back to the story.
There was originally a doorway that led into another bedroom. It was strange and made it impossible to put a bed on any wall without blocking a door or window.
So, Ryan fixed that up, fixed up the walls, woodwork and windows. We put in new carpet, I painted a lot. We went with a simple fan because it does tend to get a little warm up there in the summer.

 

Here was the first reveal.

We kept our Salvation Army dresser and blackout drapes (a necessity with the hot morning sun). But, we changed up the bedding a little bit – and here’s our master bedroom today.

 

And, while everyone said a king bed would be far too large for the room, it leaves plenty of space in the room for tables and lots of room for the dresser.

  2. Love the new changes! I would lick your chocolate comforter if I knew where you live. Wait…..don’t run away, where are you going? =]

    It looks even more like a room in a chic boutique hotel. I totally think a king bed makes a room look LARGER, you know?

  5. Your bedroom is so calming, and I bet your husband feels comfortable in it too, not too many frilly frills! Very relaxing. We went with a little more va-va-voom in our master bedroom, but we love it!
