“It’s a Twin Thing” baby shower recap

September 9, 2009 by Kim Woodward

The “Thing One and Thing Two” baby shower last weekend went off without a hitch. I hope the mother-to-be had as much fun as we had planning and executing.

Here’s where it was held – my aunt’s home.

(Gorgeous, right?)

And, here we are getting ready for folks to arrive:

Here’s the beautiful momma on the left. (Can you believe she’s having twins in two weeks? She looks awesome.)

As you may remember, we started here with invitations and some simple pom pom decor. Between my aunt and I, we really stuck to the theme and I think it came together well. Everyone seemed to have a nice time, the soon-to-be-mommy-of-two looked radiant and received many lovely (and adorable) things.

Decor:

  • Lots of onesies (which will be mighty useful when the babies come along)
  • Red and teal pom poms
  • Plain napkins cut out to look like baby shirts and pants (adorable)
  • Red flowers from the garden
  • Turquoise feather boas that mimic Thing One and Thing Two hair
  • Circles from scrapbook paper to cover tables

Food:
My aunt served sandwiches, wontons, coleslaw, fruit salad and some other light munchies. All delicious.

We also served blue punch to go with the theme.

(Do you spot those adorable napkins. The plaid ones are cut out like pants and the white ones are the shirt. My aunt added a button on the pants and a little bow on the shirt. Everyone loved them.)

We found this brilliant cupcake idea here:
(Kitchen Dough Dough )
We wanted to do something similar. Although it didn’t turn out identical, I think our replicas look adorable. (A note to anyone who wants to recreate – don’t put the cotton candy on the cupcakes until right before guests arrive. It crystallizes… quickly. Still cute but not exactly the look you’re going for.)

Gifts:

A really cool part was seeing her open the gifts. Her mother-in-law (my aunt), who hosted the party, gave her a blanket that was her son’s (the soon-to-be-daddy’s) when he was a baby. The photo in the frame was painted by him when he was in 8th grade. It just so happens that the nursery is being done in greens and animals. She had it framed and matted as a gift. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

                     Games:

We guessed how big her belly was with a ribbon.
We also wrote tips and well-wishes for her to keep in this Dr. Suess book.

The whole thing was so fun… it almost makes me want to have a baby… almost .

My mouth started watering @ the sight of the cotton candy cupcakes. No wait, at all the cupcakes.

It’s a good thing I don’t live anywhere near you guys. There’d be no cupcakes left for everyone else. Or onesies. Or fun tissue pom poms. What do you mean I can’t take all of these as my party favors?
