Christmas at the Woodwards (All Things Home)

December 5, 2013 by Kim Woodward

Fa la la la la la la la la. I’m officially in the Christmas spirit, after decking our halls from top to bottom. I’m so excited to be part of the All Things Home Christmas Home Tour this year! I’m one of 30 bloggers sharing our holiday decor this week and I think you will love all the inspiration. (All the links to the homes are included after my tour. Leave yourself some time to enjoy all the fabulous eye candy. There’s also a fabulous giveaway from One Kings Lane at the bottom of the post that you won’t want to miss. Consider it your reward for making it through so many photos.)

Holiday Home Tour

To start the tour, Henry wanted to officially welcome you. He cracks me up. He was helping me get everything picture perfect and when I snuck out for a shot of the front door, he opened it up like he was on the cover of Better Homes & Garden. Or MTV Cribs. “Welcome to my (Christmas) crib.”

The front porch

Unfortunately, it was raining the day I worked outside and took these photos, so I didn’t get our outdoor decor finished. But, I did manage to hang the wreath/frame/faux chalkboard and put out a few festive details.

Entryway

This is such a teeny space that it’s hard to get a photo, but I added my favorite 12 Days of Christmas ornaments to a shelf as well as a few other small additions.

Living room

We spend lots of time in this room, so I tried to add lots of small Christmas touches. Henry particularly loves the photos I swapped out on the wall and the red tree. Because I have a one-year-old, there is pretty much nothing that can be broken in the house this year. It puts my mind at ease that Henry can play and check out all the decorations without me having a conniption.

Dining room

I wish I could manage to get a good shot of this room and the tree, but I hope you get the idea. I love that I was able to use a unique color scheme (especially the yellow) and make it feel festive. And almost everything on the silver tree is paper, plastic or pine cone. Which is good, because my son is pretty fascinated by all that sparkle.

Kitchen

I usually display a faux tree in the kitchen, but I picked up a rosemary tree at Home Depot this year at the recommendation of my friend Stephanie. It’s the best. It smells so good and looks great, too. She also inspired me to add the ribbons to my cabinet doors. I am able to display my Christmas dishes and small village on the open shelves.Christmas Holiday Decor Red and White5

My storybook stairs from 2012 were destroyed by Hurricane Henry so I re-cut them on the Silhouette this year. I recite The Night Before Christmas with him about 20 times a day now. They’re just that fun.

Henry’s room

And last but certainly not least, the room for my little dictator. We picked up Henry’s tree on Monday (tradition is to pick a tree approximately the same height as he is). We kept it simple with just tiny pennants and a tractor for my John Deere-loving toddler. The Peace on Earth banner was something I’ve been dreaming up for a year. I just didn’t get around to it last year but I love how it turned out!

And that is our little home gussied up for the holidays. I hope you enjoyed the full tour and maybe took away a few ideas for your own space!

Hey! Guess I am a year behind. LOL! I love some of your holiday decorating ideas. I was wondering about the frame over the fireplace with your name and the large “W”. I am assuming you made it. Do you mind me asking how? I have a framed glass similar to yours and love the idea. I am what I call “sorta kinda, not really crafty” but might be able to get a crafty family member to help me. Anyway, I am so glad I found your site. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Dionne

    Hi Kim,

So glad we could be on this tour together! And thanks for sharing all the special touches in your home, it’s really lovely. I am crushing on that silver tree. You have some many nice decorations on it, I’m thinking I need to add more to my own tree!

And super cute tradition about getting a tree the same height as Henry, how fun! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.

I’m trying to decide what I like most about your house at Christmas, but I like everything! I think I am particularly loving the way you’ve hung ornaments in the entry way, dining room light and especially the mantel. Such a simple concept, but I love how it looks. Oh, and of course, your trees are picture perfect. And don’t even get me started on your little door man!

    • Kim Woodward says

      December 5, 2013 at 9:08 PM

That garland is tulle. It’s my favorite Christmas tree trick – makes the tree look so much fuller. I have a load of white tulle that a friend gave me after her wedding.
