Storybook stairs

December 6, 2012 by Kim Woodward

Sometimes the simplest projects are the best projects. That’s how I feel about our storybook stairs.

When I was taking down the mice from our Halloween stairs, I remembered the Christmas mice that Sarah created at Thrifty Decor Chick. Then, I thought of this line from “The Night Before Christmas.” Inspiration struck. I simply cut the words from black card stock on my Silhouette and attached to the stairs with rolled tape. The letters aren’t perfect and even a little wonky. But I’m happy with them. The plan was to include lots of the mice with bows. Unfortunately, I have misplaced the entire bag of paper mice from Halloween. Yes. That was only a month ago. I put them somewhere where I wouldn’t forget about them. I know I’ll find them in January.

I could only find the one lonely mouse, but I think it still looks cute. If I come across the bag of paper mice, I’ll add a few more.

What do you think of my little storybook staircase?

What a fun and creative idea! Perfect for those stairs. I can see this turning into a tradition that your kids will beg for every year. (With or without the other mice.)

I think this is the cutest thing ever. And although I’m sad about your memory loss, I’m sort of content with just the one mouse. Because honestly, come Halloween, I won’t be admiring your stairs, I’m squeamish with the rodents, even paper ones.

So I think I need a silhouette? Yes.

Super cute. This is the kind of thing that separates the men from the boys…er, the Kims from the Emilys in holiday spirit. You are my inspiration to think a little less about how long it will take to put away Christmas when I’m putting it up…why am I such a grinch? 🙂

[…] My storybook stairs from 2012 were destroyed by Hurricane Henry so I re-cut them on the Silhouette this year. I recite The Night Before Christmas with him about 20 times a day now. They’re just that fun. […]
