Trimming out a fireplace with barn wood

May 17, 2016 by Kim Woodward

It’s probably because we are all anxious to get our butts into the new house. But we have been spending lots of time working and working lately. It feels like the details are really ramping up. And, more importantly, it also feels like progress is being made. We’ve been busying ourselves with trimwork (Ryan and his […]

4 things: Master bedroom

April 25, 2016 by Kim Woodward

I feel like I have a Monday hangover – the kind that happen after an incredibly awesome weekend. The kind of weekend you wish were every weekend. Friends and sunshine and birthday cake and yummy food and late nights and drinks. But, it’s Monday and we are back to reality. And reality is okay, too. […]

Dear cabinets: I think I’m gonna marry you

April 20, 2016 by Kim Woodward

The kitchen is probably the room I’m most excited about in the new house. In our last two houses, the kitchen was totally separate from the rest of the home. Which isn’t ideal. It’s not ideal for an extrovert cooking dinner (torture). It’s not ideal for a mom trying to keep an eye on a […]

Our new outdoor space

April 18, 2016 by Kim Woodward

It’s almost like my planting flowers in pots has forced Mother Nature to get it together. You’re welcome, Midwest. (Don’t you love that I take credit for the general great weather system we’ve had in my area? I’m ridiculous.) It’s been sunny and warm all weekend and I’m soaking it up. The weekend brought a lot […]

A makeshift playroom in the basement

March 23, 2016 by Kim Woodward

Did you know that the basement of our new house is larger than our entire current apartment? Yeah. I couldn’t let that space go unused – even if we aren’t in the house yet. It’s officially a makeshift playroom, and we are digging it. This isn’t a perfectly styled space, but you’ll forgive that, right? (Let’s […]

DIY fireplace hearth and stacked stone wall tile

March 21, 2016 by Kim Woodward

Before we install the flooring on the main floor of the house, we wanted to finish the fireplace area – particularly the messy parts (tile and concrete). If you remember, we decided to go with a concrete raised hearth. The process is quite similar to a DIY concrete countertop, so that’s how Ryan approached the process. (Katie […]
