Trimming out a fireplace with barn wood

It’s probably because we are all anxious to get our butts into the new house. But we have been spending lots of time working and working lately. It feels like the details are really ramping up. And, more importantly, it also feels like progress is being made.

We’ve been busying ourselves with trimwork (Ryan and his dad) and caulking and filling holes (Papa Bear) and painting (me and my mother-in-law). I think Ryan’s been used to working on his own. But now the house is getting busy with workers.

I’ll be back (maybe next week?) to share the trim and stairs in all their glory. But you get some peeks today. Because, the FIREPLACE.

If you remember, we wanted to keep the bottom open for storage. It will be great to tuck away anything from matches, kindling and wood to toys and other junk that accumulates in the living room. After Ryan installed the concrete bench and the barn beam mantel, we needed to trim out the bottom to really finish the area.

We agreed to use more of our barn wood stash, and it’s a perfect way to round the entire wall out. Ryan will eventually put some sort of small trim inside, but it looks great as is. (Just ignore the construction debris. I do.)
