Our new outdoor space

April 18, 2016 by Kim Woodward

It’s almost like my planting flowers in pots has forced Mother Nature to get it together.

You’re welcome, Midwest. (Don’t you love that I take credit for the general great weather system we’ve had in my area? I’m ridiculous.)

It’s been sunny and warm all weekend and I’m soaking it up. The weekend brought a lot of deck lounging for me. Because of the weather and because I’m enjoying our new-to-us patio conversation set. I’ve been out there in the morning with coffee. In the afternoon watching Henry blow bubbles. In the evening with my laptop and a glass of wine. It’s 24/7 patio time.

The little five-piece conversation set is my (early) birthday gift. I found it on Craigslist and had to have it. The red cushions were speaking to me. It’s only a few years old and in really awesome condition. (It appeared to be stored in a storage facility for much of the time.)

It will eventually live on the screened in porch at the new house, but there’s no reason not to enjoy it on the deck starting right now. So, I moved all the furniture around and created a sweet little seating area. This meant I had to pot more perennials and bring up some of the flowers to the deck. Because, FLOWERS. And this VIEW.

I already had all the pillows, and they really fit the set perfectly. Planning win. All of the seats are equally comfortable. I know because I’ve tried them all. It’s all in the name of market research.red and black patio furniture conversation set04
That sweet little red cart needs a little love and affection, too. But it’s not yet a priority. I’m thinking it’d look really nice in black. It was a gift from a friend and it really suits this area perfectly.red and black patio furniture conversation set05

I can actually enjoy the plants way more up here. I can even see them from our barn window.red and black patio furniture conversation set06

I even potted some additional Monrovia grasses in our tin can planters.red and black patio furniture conversation set09
It’s a sweet little trio. Love it.red and black patio furniture conversation set08

I’m definitely looking forward to getting my garden going. I’ve cleaned up my strawberry garden and there are already a lot of blooms, which is exciting. My boys help with the garden, so it’s a nice family activity that is also great for our health. They love eating the fruits and veggies that we grow.
