“Black, white and grey all over” arrows quilt

January 20, 2016 by Kim Woodward

When it comes to baby quilts, I don’t think you can ever go wrong with grey and white. And I also don’t think you can go wrong with polka dots.black white gray arrows quilt1

My college roommate Ali is having her first baby next month. Since she and her husband aren’t finding out the gender before the birth, I wanted to make a gender-neutral quilt as part of my gift to them. I think gray and white fit the bill for a boy or girl and I love how this one turned out.

I was in St. Louis for her baby shower last weekend, so now I can share it here.

I love making half-square triangle quilts. They are relatively simple to assemble and there are tons of ways to arrange the squares to make them unique. (Check out my other versions – including chevron, herringbone, and pinwheel).

I actually planned to make this into a pinwheel quilt, but then decided to try an arrow quilt once I had the squares laid out. I started with 5 inch squares in white, black and gray (Kona solids). I finished the quilt with polka dot sashing, binding and backing. The quilting is just (sort of) straight lines.

I hope this quilt keeps that sweet February baby warm and snuggled. Can’t wait to meet him (or her).

Like my project? Check out all my quilts here.
