A bit of Easter decor

April 3, 2014 by Kim Woodward

Holidays are just plain special to me.

I just think there’s something awesome about having a reason to celebrate and establishing traditions. Having Henry bumped my holiday craziness up a few notches. I have a gaggle of wonderful memories of holidays from my childhood and am now understanding that it’s because my parents really worked hard to make them special for my brother and I. That’s why I do crazy things like tie dye Easter eggs, or make special holiday shirts, or host an over-the-top Halloween party for toddlers. Because I really want Henry to have wonderful memories like I do.

Where was I?

Oh yes. Decorating my table for Easter.

Somehow, decorating the dining room for Easter becomes a crazy necessity in my head for any holiday. And Easter is no different. It’s nothing fancy, but I love how springy the room feels now.

It started with some real and faux plants that I already had. And a simple table runner.

Then, I found the small box of spring decorations in the basement and rediscovered the banner and decor.

My in-laws gave me the galvanized stand for Christmas. It was something I’ve wanted for years but never pulled the trigger. But, I love having it for display and entertainng.  It pretty much always stays on the dining table now. The place of honor.

The little bunnies were a gift from an old neighbor who was getting rid of a collection of tons of napkin holders. I have napkin holders for every occasion now. Which is obviously a necessity, right?

I had almost forgotten about those little nests on the bottom. They were a clearance find at the craft store several years ago. I love them and wish I had more to put all over the house. And the plastic eggs are for Henry. He’s obsessed with them. I’m thinking about hiding all his meals in plastic eggs to trick him into eating. How can I fit a piece of grilled chicken in there?Simple Easter Tablescape7

I made the paper Easter banner  last year on my Silhouette and is still in brilliant shape. The colors blend well in the dining room and I love using the Kraft paper, too.

And I can’t forget those fun egg-shaped bread boards. Which are the only things I bought this year. I spotted them at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago for about $5/board and immediately remembered my friend Shannon’s awesome Houzz board about a rustic Easter. I love the shape of them and also that they add a nice touch of warmth with all the painted furniture.Simple Easter Tablescape4

So that’s my little springtime Easter table. It makes the entire house feel a little lighter. And because I only set the center, I can actually leave the table set all the time. Simple Easter Tablescape5

So maybe Henry won’t exactly remember what the table looked like for Easter. But I do hope he remembers that I tried to make the holidays special. And a little home decor can’t hurt the effort, right?

Do you decorate for Easter?

So cute! I love the banner!

I keep telling myself I’ll decorate for the next holiday and then suddenly it’s too late. Maybe someday I’ll actually be on top of things enough to decorate on time. Maybe. 🙂

Oh that’s cute! I wish that having Evelyn made me want to decorate for holidays more. Maybe as she gets a teeny older. I love your table. It makes me want to have Easter brunch!

You’re always so on top of things. I just realized that we will be in Hawaii during Easter. I’ll hang a banner in our condo. 😉

I was also going to insert an inappropriate message about Nate and your eggs here. But I won’t. Because this is a family place.

That tiered stand definitely deserves the spot of honor. It is awesome. And yes, you can never have too many napkin holders. I mean, how could you? Love the egg boards.

I think I will do a little bit of decorating for Easter. Maybe my mantel… I hope I have time 🙂

When Henry gets older we will definitely remember how you made the holidays special. I am often surprised at the little things my kids remember. Which of course makes me smile!

I remember the most random things from my childhood, so I’m sure it’s true that he’ll remember bits an dpieces, too.
