Tung oil on wood floors | a review 2 years later

November 8, 2018 by Kim Woodward

You may or may not remember that we took a different route when finishing our wood floors in our home. Instead of installing pre-finished floors or using polyurethane, we chose to finish unfinished yellow pine with pure tung oil.

And in the two years we’ve been living with these floors, we have received hundreds of questions about how they are holding up. I guess we aren’t the only ones who are interested in this beautiful, natural, nontoxic finish.

Building beautiful toy storage (that doesn’t look like toy storage)

October 24, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Our basement family room is really coming together. And today, I’m excited to be finally sharing the DIY storage console that Ryan built (last Christmas) and I painted (over the summer).

Better late than never, am I right?

Fall porch decorations and all the pumpkins

October 3, 2018 by Kim Woodward

If you are new around here … sometimes I have a tendency to go a little “overboard.”

Case in point: Pumpkins.

The truth is – I just want to acquire them all. A few pumpkins is never enough for me. I just feel like more is always more when it comes to pumpkins.

A DIY art display and chalkboard

September 27, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Last year, I created a little art display for all the projects Henry brought home from school. It’s a cute way to display a few favorite school projects.

But it wasn’t enough.

There are so many priceless works of art that needed to be displayed.

So this is another option for art – and it provides plenty of space for lots of favorites.

A neutral fall mantel

September 25, 2018 by Kim Woodward

I may have dragged my feet on fall in our home. But now it’s officially fall, and I’m gradually beginning to add autumn touches into our home.

It doesn’t happen overnight, but that’s okay.

I gradually add the fall touches to our house, which makes it fun instead of stressful. That means I’m always on the lookout for fun, seasonal decor inspiration. Because I’m not doing it overnight, I can make changes and adjustments throughout fall.

An upcycled treehouse for Henry

September 19, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Ryan and Henry have been talking about building a treehouse for YEARS.

Since we moved into the barn, the two have been plotting and planning what the treehouse would look like, where it could go, and what they would do inside.

But there have been so many projects over the past few years – the barn, our new house and the rental properties. Not to mention work that had to be done to settle into our home and to clean up the property itself. It just seemed never-ending. And the treehouse just got pushed back.

But it was never far outside of their minds. And this summer, Ryan and Henry spent countless hours together working on the new treehouse together.
