Last year, I created a little art display for all the projects Henry brought home from school. It’s a cute way to display a few favorite school projects.
But it wasn’t enough.
There are so many priceless works of art that needed to be displayed.
So this is another option for art – and it provides plenty of space for lots of favorites.
It also doubles as a giant chalkboard – so it’s dual use. And because it takes up only wall space – it’s the perfect addition for a hallway or pass-through. This little hallway is pretty narrow so it’s a great use of space.
First up – I painted a large square on the wall with chalkboard paint. (You can spot it around the corner here in the kitchen.)
Next up is very important. Leave it unfinished for two months while you work on other projects.
(Just kidding. You can skip that part.)
Next up, Ryan trimmed out the painted chalkboard in pine. Ryan made the trim mimic our other window and door trim, but we oiled it with pure tung oil instead of painting it white.
As a bonus, the bottom piece of trim is the perfect spot to keep chalk.
Once trimmed, we installed three of the DIGNITET curtain wires from IKEA to hang the art from the trim. (I used these curtain hooks to hang the pictures.)
And, voila! We have a customizable display for art and photos. It has been fun to have a larger space to hang Henry’s pictures and worksheets.
Especially this guy. Love this one.
Having a new spot for artwork display has also caused Henry to want to MAKE more art. We keep all the art supplies – paints, markers and colored pencils – in our dining room. It’s easy to use and put away.
And for the inevitable spills and messes, we use Spot Shot®Instant Carpet Stain Remover.
Just spray Spot Shot and let it set before wiping it away with a clean white spot. Easy peasy to clean up any spills. No excuse for less art in this house.
Now we have plenty of space to display art and plenty of Spot Shot to clean up the mess art leaves behind. Find Spot Shot Instant Carpet Stain Remover at Target. You can also print a coupon to save $1.
What do you think of our new art display and chalkboard?

I love the chalkboard background and right on the wall genius! I did something like this BP ( before Pinterest) in my daughter’s room (she’s turning 30 in Dec). For some one not quite so handy or more strapped for time, a temporary fix is to thumb tack string/yarn across a wall and pin your art with cute plastic clothes pins. We had a short wall with a short bookcase and hung it over that. Loved by her and us proud parents ❤️
