An easy carriage door garage update

May 22, 2015 by Kim Woodward

The barn is looking so cute, you guys. I’m just in love with this place.

In the past few weeks, Ryan and I have been working on some final details we’ve put off – before the house building gears up and all other projects go out the windows.

I’ve already shared some of those projects – a patio project, a slide off the deck platform, DIY window boxes and upcycled hanging baskets. I also touched up the board and batten on the barn with red paint from the expansion and compression of the wood. It left a small amount of wood that needed painting around some of the batten boards.

The next project – this carriage door garage update. This is a super simple, tiny project.

This is so stinkin’ simple that it really isn’t even a project. It’s just a few minutes.Garage carriage door details1
But it makes such a huge difference. Here’s the blank canvas. (This was last fall, so it’s also before we brought in rock to the space. And also before we moved in, so it looks pretty abandoned with all those weeds.)Barn updates September5

And here it is today.

It’s better in a lot of ways. But I love that simple hardware on the garage door. It makes it look a little less like a huge white garage door. I was inspired to do this project by Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick. And just like her garage door, I’m super happy with the transformation.

I set off to buy the hardware and found out it wasn’t carried by my hardware store – but they had something better (for a lazy girl like me). It’s a magnetic garage door handle set – no drills or holes needed! That’s the exact set I purchased, and it was a dream to install.

It wasn’t even challenging enough to really be called an installation.

I just opened the package and popped them on the door. They stuck right on and I could adjust them as needed. They haven’t moved or fallen off at all. Which was something that my skeptical husband worried about. It’s also really windy out here, but no issues. So, I’m calling this a success.

I love quick and simple upgrades – and this may be one of my favorites.

I cannot find those magnetic handles. Do you know what brand they are, maybe I can find them online.

There is a link in the post – the same one I purchased is on amazon, but they were a bit cheaper in the store for me. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00U8L3V4I/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00U8L3V4I&linkCode=as2&tag=newlywo-20&linkId=TTXDV2YGTR7TTSQV

How cute is this? I love this idea. We are moving here in a few months (probably by the end of summer) and I think I may have to do my own little version of this on our new garage that is getting a new door. Thanks for the inspiration. I love your page!

That IS an awesome addition. Never would have thought it would add that much character. Are you sure you want to build a house ? LOL

That’s awesome, Kim! So cute. Can’t believe those are magnets…wish I had a garage door to put them on!
