Creating a slide on a deck platform

May 8, 2015 by Kim Woodward

Who needs to build a full play set (for thousands of dollars) when you can simply make your deck into a slide?

(In other words? Who’s too cheap/lazy/busy to invest in a full play set? Us.)

Henry loves slides, and with living farther out on the country, having one on the property is something I had planned since last year. And when Ryan built the deck and we added the railings, I decided that it would be the perfect spot.

But it wasn’t a top priority. Until I came across this 8-foot slide on Craigslist.

It ended up being the perfect size for the deck landing (which is about 5 feet off the ground). Ryan used three cedar 2x4s to secure it and keep it solid and safe. He took out the three center railings and secured the railing to the floor.

The best part? It was a relatively cheap and easy project.

Plus Henry  loves it! He’s burning tons of energy going up and down the stairs. And when he’s no longer into it, we can just put the railings back up.

Happy weekend! If you need us, we’ll be sliding.

This is a great idea. We are tearing down our old playset but I may just relocate the slide to the deck now.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out – and it’s definitely less work to get rid of when the time comes.

What a great find!!! And a big savings too, I am sure. Play systems aren’t cheap!! Love seeing your creativity and the two of you working together.

SO. FUN! Our slide is was a craigslist find, too. New slides are crazy expensive! Especially the ones that are long enough to be fun 🙂

How cool is that?! It floors me to think about how much stuff must have been thrown out before Craig’s List. So glad you were able to save the slide. Go Henry! Have a wonderful Mother’s Day!
