A mini patio project

April 17, 2015 by Kim Woodward

It’s officially “get out of the house” season in the Midwest.

Can I get an “amen?”

This means that we are working and playing outside as much as we can. Which brings us to a little project …

There’s truly nothing better than our view from the barn. I just soak this in, folks.

And while we love using our deck this spring and summer, we also know that it will get so hot and sunny that it won’t always be the most comfortable place to chill.

Enter the “bottom patio.” That’s the official name.

The space under the deck is beautifully shaded and I want to use that area for hanging out. So that’s a last-minute project we’re working on before we start building our house (IN EARLY MAY, OMG!). This is no catalog project. I have around $0 – give or take – to make this area work for us.

Okay, I have a few quarters that I’m rubbing together. But mostly, I’m just using what we have and trying to make the space feel like it’s meant to be loved.

So, here’s our little mini-makeover plan:

  • Rake out and level the dirt.
  • Add mulch everywhere..
  • Paint the door and make it a focal point. (I have a plan for this one.)
  • Paint the braces? Maybe? Maybe not?
  • Add chairs, pillows and a fire pit (already have).
  • Add some flowers and pots (already have).
  • Get me a glass of wine and leave me alone.

This isn’t a major makeover, but I’m really excited for this little lounge area. And it should also be a great spot all summer long.

What spruce-ups are you working on this spring?

Amen! 🙂 We have a ton of “sprucing” to do this spring. I should get organized with a list.

Awesome deck and view. Now all you need is a Jacuzzi!

      A jacuzzi would be lovely.

Sounds like a great plan! And who wouldn’t want to sit on the ground level porch with a glass of wine (or a mug of lemonade) and look at that view?
Our one and only goal right now is to sell our house. We want to move north before fall!
    Enjoy your weekend!

ah, sounds lovely! I’d love to do a little patio under our deck someday. I bet that would be nicer than overgrown ivy and piles of scrap wood, which is how we decorate under there right now 😉

Ivy and wood piles are very trendy right now. 😉
