A lovely lavender bridal shower

July 9, 2013 by Kim Woodward

I know that many people don’t enjoy going to showers. And I truly don’t get it.

I would be a bridal and baby shower crasher if I thought I could pull it off. I love it all. The cake. The decorations. The food. The punch. The cake. The games. The gifts. The cake. All of it.

And particularly the cake.

Did I mention the cake?

So, all that to say, I had the opportunity to help with a shower for my friend and little sis Emily. I’m so excited to be part of her special day as a bridesmaid. And with a wedding comes showers. Hurray! Her friend Rachel was really the mastermind behind the majority of the decorations, so I was just thrilled she let me help! (The lovely bride is third from the left.)

And besides the cake … you know I love to share shower decorations, so here they are! Emily’s wedding color is purple, so that was pretty much the only real “theme” for the shower. And I think it turned out so well. I hope you love it, too.

We’ll start with my favorite part. The food table was fabulous, in my opinion. I have a tendency to overcrowd a food table, and I love that this food table can breath. Ahhhhhh….

And I’m over-the-moon excited about the sign Rachel created. Isn’t is awesome???? She used the backing from a frame as the “canvas.” It is the most awesome backdrop for the food, too.  We found the tree in the back room and drug it into the party space. Because we are totally normal.

The chalkboard tags are one of my new obsessions. I cut them from chalkboard contact paper on the Silhouette. Aren’t they adorable? (And don’t get me started on that tiered tray. I need that tray in my life.)

I even drug my kitchen chalkboard out for a field trip for the occasion. I’m becoming less horrid at the chalkboard art thing.

I  think this mimosa bar was nothing short of inspired. Take note. Every shower should have mimosas. (Three fruits – blueberries, raspberries and peaches. Three types of champagne. Three types of juice.)

Mix together and yummmmmmmmm.

The gorgeous cake was created by one of the other bridesmaids. She’s also making the wedding cake. Truly talented.Purple bridal shower10

And here are a few more detail shots. Rachel created the chalkboard from a thrifted mirror. We created engineering prints from some of their engagement photos.

The table runners were created from disposable tablecloths.

Since Emily is a nurse, vintage nurse images were on the tables. Purple bridal shower07

Tulle created perfect chair bows. (I get spools of tulle on Fabric.com)Purple bridal shower12

I also got a little sign-happy. It happens when I get excited.

So that was the shower in a large nutshell. I hope that Emily enjoyed it as much as I did.

I think I love showers so much because it’s exciting to celebrate the beginning of a long and happy marriage.
Or maybe it’s the cake?

Super pretty! I am pretty sure there’s a baby shower coming up that you are more than welcome to crash…you’ll have a bit of a drive for it, but there will be delicious cake.

Beautiful! You’re so right: no bridal shower is complete without mimosas!

I’m a total shower whore. Probably poor choice of words there given the subject. But I love showers. Love them.

I’m throwing a couples wedding shower in August. Do you have any game suggestions?

Maybe I would like showers with mimosas. The alcohol may help me deal with the ooo and the ahhing and the awkward conversations.

Girl, you need to seriously consider becoming an event coordinator. Follow your passion!

I love this! I can totally see your creativity all over the place. Maybe you love your day job…but just in case you ever want a different job, you could probably do this whole event/party planning thing FULL TIME. For real.

I’m not usually a big shower person, but I make exceptions for mimosas and cake! Love those tree branches…you all did a great job with decor. 🙂

Well, I definitely fall in the don’t-love-showers group, but I WILL say that I enjoy lovely, well-executed showers. Especially if they had a mimosa bar. Then I would enjoy them quite a bit more.

This shower looks absolutely beautiful. I love the chalkboard tags!

[…] Yes. The kitchen chalkboard made an appearance. This is her first wedding and I couldn’t be more proud. (Full disclosure: I did not do the gorgeous writing – that was by the very artistic matron of honor Rachel – who also did most of the cool stuff for the shower I shared a while back.) […]
