I may have dragged my feet on fall in our home. But now it’s officially fall, and I’m gradually beginning to add autumn touches into our home.
It doesn’t happen overnight, but that’s okay.
I gradually add the fall touches to our house, which makes it fun instead of stressful. That means I’m always on the lookout for fun, seasonal decor inspiration. Because I’m not doing it overnight, I can make changes and adjustments throughout fall.
That’s why I’m so excited to be part of the Fall Mantel Blog Hop with Lovely Etc. and a variety of other incredibly talented bloggers. I always love hopping around and seeing what others are doing in their homes. It’s inspiring – and I know you’ll get some great ideas for your home, too. Check out all the photos and links at the end of the post.
But first … I want to share our neutral fall fireplace mantel decor. This year, I went simple and natural and neutral. And I love it.
Our mantel is quite shallow, so I can’t use any decor that’s too deep.
I wanted to add a few new frames to the mantel this year. I have always used a big window frame in the past – but the glass broke and I haven’t fixed it. So instead, I found the large wood frame at Michael’s for 70 percent off. I just painted the backboard on the frame in black and then freehanded pumpkins with white chalk marker.
When fall is over, I can either put a print inside or I can wipe off the chalk marker and try again. (Or just paint over it.)
The glass has a lot more glare than I expected. But I like the look of the black and white.
The give thanks print was from Hobby Lobby. It’s actually a fabric print and I love the stripes and wood frame.
After I had those two pieces, I just filled in with fall decor I already had – burlap and checked garland, wheat, and a faux pumpkin on top.
And then I added a few real pumpkins, pillows and a throw below. But, full disclosure – I had to move all of the heavier pumpkins once I realized my nearly-one-year-old wouldn’t leave them alone. That’s life.
I like pretty things, but I also didn’t need one of those pumpkins to fall on Lucy’s toes.
It’s pretty either way! But I just love those unique shapes and colors in pumpkins. We went pumpkin picking last weekend and had a great time finding all the unique shapes and colors. There are more on our porch and throughout the house.
The pumpkins are really the only colorful part of the fall mantel – everything else is neutral and natural. I like the look.
I hope you like the look, too. And don’t miss these beautiful mantels – there are so much great inspiration – trust me.

I love the big frame… such a cute idea to make a big piece on a budget. Especially with a narrow mantle.
