Over the weekend, we were guests at a wedding and I attended a bridal shower, so it was a fun and jam-packed couple of days. (And I may or may not have mixed up the bridal shower date, so I may or may not have gone to the bridal shower a day early, only to realize there was no one there and it was actually on Sunday.)
Here’s what we look like when we aren’t covered in paint and dust. In case you couldn’t remember. Sometimes I forget.
Anyhoo, this post is actually about gifts, not about how awesome we look when we shower.
When I made my own casserole carrier, I thought it’d make a great gift. When paired with a covered Pyrex dish or covered cake pan (9×13) from the couple’s registry, it’s a nice personalized set. And I find it super handy to have not only to keep food warm or cold in transit, but also because it’s simpler to carrier.
So, I got to working on two of them for the events last weekend. Then, I decided that I needed to add a set of potholders to each gift. Mostly because I’ve been wanting to make them, and also because I think everyone can use potholders. (Homemade gifts take time and effort, so it’s just not worth the time if they aren’t practical and useful. These gifts are both, in my opinion.)
Sso here’s the recap.
For Ryan’s high school friend and wife were married at a gorgeous winery wedding on Saturday, I chose a black and white patterned canvas for gifts. I found that I really like the way cotton canvas works for the casserole carrier. It’s a little heavier than the cotton quilting fabric I used. But it still sews easily.
I also added the carriers for utensils, which I think is really handy. I used belting for the handles. (Sorry for the blurriness, my camera is not my friend and I took these really quickly before wrapping them up.)
And here are the potholders, using this pattern by Prudent Baby. It’s quite easy and turn out nicely. I like this style of potholder with a pocket.
For my dear friend Ashley’s bridal shower, I chose a fun pink pattern that reminded me of her. And she happened to wear pink to the shower, so it must have been meant to be.
Don’t you adore the large-scale fuschia pattern on that fabric? (Here’s the fabric used.)
I used navy blue as an accent.
And I liked the potholders so well that I made a few for myself and my mom, too.
Here’s the gift all packed up with some casserole dishes for Ashley. (Is it just me, or are glass casserole dishes with lids the most-used bakeware in your cabinets? I love giving them as gifts.)

What do you think?

Oh my goodness this is the cutest thing ever! I love the casserole carrier! Do you sell them? Etsy site? Girl, I gotta have one of those! lol Let me know!

Awwww you guys look cute. Pretty dress too. So just add one of those cute pink and navy sets to the Shannon pile and that’d be fine. Oh and I’m thinking I need a new Pinterest board called Things Kim Needs to Make For Me. You’re ok with that, right? I thought so.
These are cute and I would totally buy them. Etsy shop soon? Thanks. ; )
I absolutely LOVE my new pink potholders. Everyone should be so lucky and have an awesome daughter like we do.
Yay for casserole carriers & potholders – yours look smashing. I really like the idea of using a canvas material – I bet it’s a little more durable than the quilting material that I’ve used in the past!
You and Ryan are super-cute. I really like your bangs. 🙂
These are fantastic! I think I NEED one of those casserole dish carriers. My mom has been knitting potholders lately. She knits them double thick. They’re nice, but I really like these ones too!
I need to make one of those for me. My pyrex doesn’t have a lid but my glass lock does, I’ll have to try to change the measurements a bit. I love the idea of making pot holders too since mine often get too gross quickly, this is a much cheaper option.
I love the pink potholders!
If only I knew how to sew/had a sewing machine.
That pink fabric is amazing! And I love how you combined something handmade with something off their registry…so thoughtful. But my main question is how have you found time to sew when all that renovating is going on?
these are awesome kim!!! i know i’ve said this before but i don’t know where you get the time to do all you do. maybe i need to fly you to pa .. you can stay at the b&b and teach me time management!
love the pink and navy combo the best.
great gift! you’re too kind.
these are both so beautiful!! I love the patterns you chose, and YES, all my pyrex is hands-down one of the most used dishware in our kitchen!
I love both those fabrics. Good call on the color for your friend! Although I’m not much of a cook I would love to hang those cool potholders in my kitchen. Great job!!!
These are awesome! I love the pink fabric. What a fantastic wedding gift!
Great idea and great gifts! Thanks for sharing!
I love these! Loooove that pink fabric like, whoa, too. Also, you and Ryan are so cute.

Your friends are so lucky to get your gorgeous creations! You’re a super talented chick. Teehee, and that’s hilarious about the bridal shower date – totally something I would have done. 🙂
These are so cute. I love the hot pink. This is a great gift idea and the work that you put into it makes it really special. Glad you had a fun weekend!
I’m loving those pot holders!! You can never have too many potholders…especially if you’re a messy cook! May have to try out that pattern once I decide to be friends with my sewing maching again. 😛
I wished we lived closer because I’d be begging you for some sewing lessons – for real. One day when I have my very own machine I’m going to have to fly you down for a visit and lessons :o).
The gifts were beautiful – and so special since you made them with love by hand awww.
