Simple baby shower idea: whale of a tale onesies

September 10, 2014 by Kim Woodward

It’s no secret that I believe in the power of a cute onesie.

I mean, I believe they may just change the country. Vote personalized baby clothes in the 2014 elections.
Whale onesies1

These are four cutie versions I made for my friend Cindy when she was planning a whale-themed shower. She didn’t even ask me. I just believe in onesies so much I decided to make them and send them her way.

(And no. I don’t do this for just anyone. Sorry, world.)

But, these are so simple you can make them yourself. I love the idea of coordinating onesies at a baby shower. Hang them from a clothes line and everyone will die from cuteness. They are decor AND a gift. It’s a two-fer.

I literally just cut a few different whale shapes on white heat transfer material and ironed on. (I also added a fabric whale on one of the shirts for good measure.) Whale onesies3

If you don’t have a Silhouette, you could purchase iron-ons at the craft store or online.

Whatever you do, I implore you – make a onesie for your next baby shower. I promise it will make you feel a little better about the world.

And if it doesn’t, you still have something cute to show for your efforts.

You are the greatest friend and I feel incredibly lucky that you’re MY friend!! Little dude was born this week and I can’t wait to see him rockin’ the whale onesies! I wish I had your talent, friend. You make this all look so easy and I appreciate the work and thought behind it SO MUCH.

I buy most of my onesies from American Apparel. But for this one, I picked up the grey ones from Hobby Lobby.

So I ordered temporary tattoo paper yesterday for my Silhouette and now I need to go order transfer paper. Thanks for the idea! Mama’s got a birthday party to plan.

YOU WILL LOVE TATTOO PAPER. Seriously – love that stuff. I can’t stop tattooing things. My next project will be tattooing wood. Like wood utensils or boxes. Just because I can.

You’ll love heat transfer. There’s something empowering about making a shirt in a few minutes. I CAN RULE THE WORLD>
