Now that the house is painted, our porch also got a little attention to be decorated for fall. I’ve never had such a huge space to fill, so I’m getting used to that. But the space totally makes me happy. Doesn’t it just look like the house is smiling now? (No? Just me?)
We didn’t have to deal with leaves in our yard at the last house so this is an adjustment. Would you even believe we had just raked up the yard five days before I took these picture? Crazy.
My in-laws gave me a hay bale for decorating and most of the small pumpkins and gourds (so cute!). I picked up the majority of the larger pumpkins at a farm near our hometown. Those gray Cinderella pumpkins had me at hello. They match the house perfectly. I picked up the painted wooden sticks (candy corn and pumpkin) at a local craft show a few years back for $1/each. They are made of old shipping pallets. (Calling all you DIYers.)
To make the topiaries, I just cut down the stems and nestled them together. I covered an old pot in inexpensive linen-looking fabric I had in the basement. The lanterns are from IKEA and I filled them with small pumpkins and gourds for a little fall flair.
I picked up all the mums and ornamental cabbage from Lowe’s three weeks ago. They are doing really well since I’m watering the heck out of them. The cabbage were already on clearance when I picked them up. I think they are so cool.
I had brought my succulents inside but it’s been back to warm again lately so I put it back on the table. Another cinderella pumpkin makes my heart go pitter patter.
So, that’s the tour of the porch. I also planted a few mums in the ground in hopes they come back next year. You should SEE the mums at our old house. They look like something out of a magazine. Let’s cross our fingers that mums like the new yard, too. I also picked up a few pots of $1 hanging pansies for a little color.
Now, I guess raking leaves should be the next project. But it’s not nearly as fun.
What do you think?

It’s glorious. I want to copy it. I have yet to hit up the pumpkin patch and refuse to buy my pumpkins at the grocery store. But the pumpkin patch trip requires cutesy farm-y outfits for the whole fam. ANd maybe bringing the wagon. See? Lots of planning to get a big orange veg for out front. Oh back to yours…um, those fairytale pumpkins are where it’s at. You know the fancy store terrain? They’re are selling them for like 14 bucks EACH! C’mon! It’s a pumpkin!
OMG!!!! The new house color is GORGEOUS! Love the transformation. I almost drove right past it whilst doing my nightly drive-by stalking…..
The planter with mums and cabbage is great! I love rescuing plants from the clearance section at Lowe’s too. Love the stacked pumpkin topiaries!
Your porch looks festive and very welcoming. I love your red milk can with the pot of flowers on top.
I love the mini-pumpkins in the lanterns. I just bought a lantern from Ikea last month, and it’s just sitting on a shelf with a little tea-light in it. You’ve inspired me!
yes, it does look like your house is smiling! It looks so beautiful! We are gearing up for the daily raking of leaves, too! We find it fun for the first week and then it becomes our nemesis very quickly 🙂
I got the same purple/green kale. My fall stoop post will be up on Wed. I’ve never seen the Cinderella pumpkins- love them. Oh, and the idea of filling the lanterns with gourds is great!
The house looks great.
Your house is beautiful! And I love what you’ve done with porch . . . so, so, so cute!

I adore the baby pumpkins in the red lanterns!! It all looks so great!!
Beautiful! So homey and fun, Kim! Love it!
Looks beautiful! T always waits until the last possible moment to rake b/c he says inevitably, more leaves will fall as soon as he is done raking. I love the lanterns!
It looks so good! I’m terrible about seasonal decorating. The best I’ve done is plopping some mums on our front porch!
I can totally see it smiling!! You have a very happy house I’m sure. The porch looks awesome!! Very festive for fall! 🙂
So fun!! It definitely looks like the house is smiling. Love the cabbage!! And the pumpkins in the lantern.
