“Pizza in the oven” baby shower

December 8, 2010 by Kim Woodward

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are expecting our very first niece or nephew (and their first child) in March. We are super excited to be the favorite aunt and uncle, and helped throw a family shower over the holidays so Ryan’s family from Tennessee could all be involved.

Meet mom and dad:

It was held at a local pizza parlor. I was trying to connect to a “bun in the oven” theme. But instead, it’s a “pizza in the oven” shower. I was very inspired by this awesome bun in the oven shower at Frosted Events. Here’s the invite I created (in Microsoft Word… I’m such a graphic designer):

As a note – the name of the personal pan pizzas at the pizza parlor are little joes.

You can tell me how clever I am. I’ll wait.

Here are a few other photos from the shower. Ryan and I decorated with pom poms, alphabet blocks and scrapbook paper. (As a side note, my husband was such a good sport about helping with this shower. So thankful for him.) I also cut little baby feet out on the Cricut. I think it turned out looking festive.

For food, we ate the pizza, cookies and cake.

Food is really most important, right?

Congrats, Adam and Keri! Looking forward to meeting the little one.

And, as a side note… when the teenage waitress came into the room to talk to Ryan and I, she looked directly at my belly when I said it was a baby shower and said, “Oh, wow. That’s great.” She clearly thought I was the mom-to-be. I set her straight. Really quickly. (Because in case it wasn’t clear, I’m not pregnant. Sorry, mom.)

Can I blame it on the horizontal stripes? Although this is the second time someone thought I was pregnant…

Yikes.

Looks great! I love the saying on the cake and the banner will be great in the nursery (or to save for yourself).

PS-People have made the same mistake about me too ….not cool.

Oh, and I do all my stuff in word too- no shame.

Aw, you are such a good shower-planner! Love the pizza in the oven theme, and I’m totally jealous of the food you ate. 🙂

You all are so sweet. I wasn’t too worried about the preggo comment. She was all of 16 years old and all of a size 2. We were all a little insensitive at that age, right?

Oh how fun does that look! Congrats to your whole family 🙂

As far as the pregnant comments… Luckily I have never had any like you have mentioned however when I was pregnant with my son, I was in the grocery store and an older lady started talking to me. She said ‘Oh any day now huh!?’… Ya… I was only 6 MONTHS PREGNANT.. When I told her that she smiled and said ‘Oh having twins then!?’… Really lady, you should have quit while you were ahead LOL.

I was told that I looked like I “could go any day now” when I was 6 months pregnant… ouch.

But the man at the grocery store last week who asked if I was the proud grandmother really took the cake. Seriously, dude, I just turned 27.

people are so insensitive. i have been mistaken for pregnant before (when i was not) and my tongue as well as my eyes could have killed the girl.

The waitress must hang out with the neighbor that thought I was in my forties. 🙂 Clearly she’s a nut, you look fab!!

Anyhoo, I love the theme AND the way you executed it – they are lucky peeps to have you guys as the aunt and uncle of their baby!

A few days ago, I had someone say, “Man, you’re about ready to go, huh?” Meanwhile, I had my baby already. Three weeks ago.And I was HUGE toward the end of my pregnancy, which makes me wonder how big I still look?

A few years ago when we were shopping around for mortgages, I went to the bank with my MIL. The woman actually patted my belly and asked when I was due. Which was made worse by the fact that I wasn’t pregnant and my son was 6 months old. I told her I wasn’t pregnant, and she looked mortified (good, because I was) but then made it worse by going ON and ON about how horrible she felt. Then she closed with, “Don’t feel bad. I have kids too, and I have the little pooch I can’t get rid of, too.” Cow. Needless to say, they did not get our business.

Being the favorite Aunt is awesome. Everytime I walk into my niece’s house, they scream “LIZZIE!!!” like a rock star walked in. I’m not sure, but I think I might be cooler then Hannah Montana.

As per usual, the event was planned to perfection. I love the “pizza in the oven” theme– so cute!

Cute, Kim!! I love the neat banner. You did a great job. 🙂 I stopped being polite after the second time someone asked me if I was pg. (Yes, I’ve gained weight!!). I just say, “No, I’m not pregnant. I’m just fat.” Putting it bluntly embarrasses them, which I figure they ought to be since they were stupid enough to ask….

Super cute shower idea Kim….LOVE the invites. You are a clever little gal, aren’t ya. For the record, I have never thought you looked pregnant. As a side note, the empire waist has reaped me that very question as well…seriously, empire waist does not equate pregnancy people!! Pretty rude to assume anyway. Yikes!!

More people need to use pizza as the theme to their event…delicious, delicious events. Please put Little Joes on the list of things for Shannon to eat when she comes to visit. Thanks. Oh and as per usual, You made it adorable. We were the favorite (only) aunt and uncle for years and years, it’s so fun, especially the shopping part. But then we realized how much money we were spending on other people’s kids and we decided to have one to reap the benefits. Not the only reason we had him, I swear. Swear!

What a cute idea for a shower! I love the Baby Woodward banner.

Someone once asked me when my baby was due … about a week after he’d been born. Talk about awkward!! 🙂

You have the cutest ideas for baby showers! And being the favorite aunt and uncle is a pretty good gig, if I do say so myself. 😉

I know what it’s like to be mistaken for pregnant, so I sympathize with you. When we got married, I kept losing weight before the wedding (about 10 lbs) due to the stress of planning a wedding from another state. But by two months of being married my weight was back where it used to be but I hold my weight in the hip/lower ab area so I received numerous inquiries from co-workers. Talk about receiving a complex!

I think some people are just clueless in general.
