When we get snow in December, I feel it’s necessary to get photos of the outside of our farmhouse for Christmas. It just looks so much prettier with a dusting of white.
I took these quickly as my kids were playing in the snow. As such, I realized when I got inside that I had a smudge of something on all the photos.
Such is life. It doesn’t bother me enough to retake photos.
The house still looks pretty. I hung wreaths on all the front windows, which is so simple and looks extra festive.
I got the window wreaths in 2015 and I’m still using the same ones each year. They still look nice but only half of the lights still work on the wreaths. I would probably skip the prelit wreaths next time around, but they look so pretty at night with lights. (At least the ones that work.)
To hang the wreaths, I use outdoor command hooks on the windows. These keep them tight against the windows, which keeps them from banging in the wind (which was a major issues when I hung them from ribbons.)
On the front porch railings, I draped some garland haphazardly. It looks a little wonky. But we are wonky, so I’m going with it. I considered getting fresh garland this year, but I couldn’t justify the expense since I had this garland. It looks nice when it’s fluffed even though I’ve had it since we first got married almost 13 years ago. (Here’s a peek at the garland on our first home’s fence.)
I’m really quite pleased with the front door, and I kept it pretty simple. A wreath with a “joy” cutout and a pair of small planters. (I picked up these cute lighted gnome trees for the planters.)
The welcome sign is also relatively new – I picked it up locally. I would love to find some interchangeable shapes for the O but I like that I can keep it up all year..
My toy soldier blow molds were originally belonged to my grandparents and they are perfect on the stairs. Ryan zip tied them to the railing so they won’t fly away on me. If they survived 50 years, I think they can survive at our house for a few more years. I just love them so.
The metal trees and truck are new additions – purchased locally.
The little houses on top of the window are actually inside decor, but look pretty cute out here, too. I have them set up with twinkle lights that come on at night.
So, that’s a quick, smudgy look at our outdoor holiday decor. Look, 2020 has been a little smudgy overall, am I right? This is just on brand.
