Nursery progress

February 20, 2012 by Kim Woodward

Well, the past week brought a little nursery progress. No thanks to me. My motivation seems to have left the building. While I had a list of projects to work on over the weekend, I accomplished none of them. Although I did catch up on Downton Abbey and read a book.

But, that’s a whole other story for another day.

In progress news, we decided on the Jenny Lind crib in white for Baby Dub. We ordered the crib and mattress on Amazon on Monday, and the items were on our doorstep on Wednesday and Thursday. (Since we have a Prime membership, shipping was free.)

I was so darn excited, I convinced Ryan to get it all set up in the nursery.

Franco and Lola helped. They are quite the little worker bees.

It went together really quickly and the puggies approve.

Then over the weekend, while I twiddled my thumbs, my fairy godpeople (aka my mother-in-law and father-in-law) painted the baby’s room.

They even brought their own supplies. You should really get yourself some fairy godpeople. But, you can’t have ours.

You can tell from the above pictures that the new color is quite a bit lighter than the old color, which I painted last January. I thought it was too dark from the beginning, but I tried to talk myself out of it. In the end, it was never quite right and made the room cave-like. When my in-laws offered to paint the room, I jumped at the chance before they could change their minds.

And I’m glad I did! The new color is a lot lighter and brighter, which makes the room look enormous.

I decided to go with Martha Stewart’s Sharkey Grey – color matched to Behr Ultra Premium Plus.

The color pops well with all the white, but it’s plenty manly for our little guy.

So, that’s the nursery progress. I purchased all the curtain fabric online and it should be here this week. Let’s hope I can get my rear in gear and get going in this room. I don’t think I can count on other people to do it all for me. (No matter how much I hope.)

What do you think?

It’s gonna be great! What color were the walls originally? I just brought home a sample of Martha Stewart Driftwood Gray and love it for the bedroom, but now I’m a little concerned it’s gonna be too dark.

The nursery looks great so far! I am jealous of baby dub’s big closet. I also noticed you guys didn’t paint you wood doors, which makes me feel better because most of our woodword is white but the doors are wood. I was debating if we should paint them or not, but now I am thinking not. =)

Gee, you guys sure are slave drivers. Poor pugs needed to take a nap in the crib they were so exhausted from all that helping! 😉

Yay, fairy godparents! The Sharkey Grey is a lovely neutral and much brighter than the previous color! Perfect for a little man! I’m so looking forward to seeing how this crib comes together. 🙂

Don’t you just love Amazon Prime? Now that I have had it I don’t think I could live without it. You have pretty great fairy godpeople, lucky dog! I can’t wait to watch the progress of the nursery!

Love what you have done thus far! I think the color is a huge improvement.

But more importantly… I love the puggies!!! Seeing Franco and Lola in the crib makes me wonder if I got my three puggies their own crib, if they’d let me and hubby have our bed back. Hmmm…. 🙂

Looks great! My craft room is a bit too dark of a gray, this would be a nice in-between…but I just repainted it last summer and it was a HUGE paint if only I had fairygod people painters.

I love that crib! The room is going to look so great, Kim.

On another note, all of you non-procrastinators are getting me in trouble with Caroline. “Kim is starting on the nursery. 5 Camels is almost done with hers. Can Baby McKevitt’s room be a priority please?”

I LOVE the bright white against the grey it looks amazing. As a matter of fact I’m now scratching my chin wondering if the cherry wood that I’ve picked is going to be too dark?

    Sigh.

Oh, those white pieces are really popping!! So wise to go with white. I think that dark wood for all of the furniture would have gone back to cavelike. That beautiful antique dresser is the perfect mix! Your inlaws are so sweet to help you, and it looks like they did a marvelous job!! I had to paint Natalie’s room all by myself with a bandanna over my nose and the window open. Yep, that’s how helpful my dear husband was. :s
