My dream kitchen and a $50 Williams-Sonoma gift card giveaway

June 21, 2013 by Kim Woodward

This post is sponsored by Wilsonart. I was compensated for my time and Wilsonart provided a gift card to give away to one NewlyWoodwards reader. All opinions are my own.

When I was asked to be part of the Wilsonart Dream Kitchen Challenge, it was a no-brainer. Kitchens are my favorite part of a house to design. We spend a lot of time there so it’s important to be pretty and practical. I’ve designed two kitchens on extreme budgets (1, 2) and I’m constantly thinking about what I’ll do in the next kitchen design – which will be starting soon. (And I have the Pinterest kitchen board to prove it.)

This challenge is pretty simple – I share what I’d do in my dream kitchen for a chance to win $1,000 toward new Wilsonart HD countertops. And then you can tell me how awesome it is and get a chance to win a $50 gift card of your own.

1 OVERALL

(Sources: House Beautiful, Simply Seleta, Inkie Mama, CoCoCozy, )

Looking at my kitchen board give you a clear idea of my dream kitchen –  a cozy farmhouse with a classic flair. Because we’re moving to 17 acres of farmland in the country, I want the feel of a farmhouse – warm, comfortable and welcoming. But I also want the room to feel classic and timeless. I’m a white kitchen girl through and through, so I would stick with white cabinetry but add depth through warm wood tones in floors and furniture, pops of bright colors and black accents.

COUNTERS

I was asked to choose a countertop from the Wilsonart HD laminate collection for my dream kitchen. I knew I wanted to go with a lighter tone to keep it light and bright. I also wanted a countertop that balanced wood floors and details. So when I opened my blogger kit and saw a sample of Bianco Romano, I was sold.

We had laminate in our last house, and it was definitely not this pretty. I actually kept petting the sample – it looks gorgeous and has a wonderful texture. Plus, it was light but had grey and brown veining, which means it would really blend with anything I could throw at it. I had to take a picture of the sample because the shots on the website don’t do it justice.

CABINETRY

Just because this is a dream kitchen doesn’t mean it has to be unattainable. You know I love our IKEA cabinetry, so I’d stick with the white Adel doors and drawers. The finish holds up beautifully, the Shaker-style door is perfect for a classic style and the drawers are extra deep. I’d actually go with 100 percent drawers on the lower cabinets, because I find drawers to be much more practical than base cabinets.

PANTRY

(Sources: Honey and Fitz, Slide Out Shelves, Farm Chick)

I am a person who believes firmly in pantries. Very. Large. Pantries. So, I’m making sure it’s clear that I’ll have one very huge pantry in this kitchen. Enough to hold all my small appliances (I’m a bit of a small appliance whore) and food items. And I would be willing to give up tons of cabinets for this addition.

DETAILS

(Sources: The Wicker House, Schoolhouse Electric, Home Depot)

I love the contrast of black with white. I’d use black details in hardware, like these black cup pulls from Home Depot.

I’m also a sucker for schoolhouse lights. I think they are classic, but will still feel at home in the country. I’d choose the Hampton pendant and the Northwestern surface mount fixtures from Schoolhouse Electric in a black finish.

I’d also like to add my large blackboard, black appliances and a black faucet.

 TABLES AND ACCENTS

(Sources: 6th Street Design School, Coastal Living, Simply Seleta, The Lettered Cottage)

And a few final details:

  • I love the idea of a long farmhouse table spanning the length of the kitchen in lieu of an island. Add some black Windsor chairs and you’ve entered my dream land.
  • I’d add a red door to the pantry, which would liven up the black and white.
  • Because I’m an open-shelf convert, I’d like to add a floor-to-ceiling plate rack to display my dishes.

And that’s a big peek into my dreamy kitchen.

Now that you’ve seen mine, I want to give one of you the opportunity to add a little beauty or practicality to your own kitchen.  One $50 Williams-Sonoma gift card is up for grabs by entering in the widget below. The winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday, June 26, at 8 p.m., and announced Thursday.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Good luck!

A long term home fitness program and dieting quotes
tumblr program strictly is not an easy task. What did you do today that involves your commitment to losing weight in his Weight
Loss system. A crash diet does not lower the fat from your diet.
A commitment to getting fit is all you need

  55. Colleen says

Our kitchen is in dire need of a new countertop. The current laminate is dinged, scratched, stained, and warped- hooray for purchasing homes that have been foreclosed! I think we’ve decided when the time comes to replace it, we’d like to do laminate… there’s some concerns about our cabinetry being able to support the weight of other materials. I dig a black and white kitchen with pops of color as well, and since we painted our kitchen cabinets black and distressed them, I’d really dig Wilsonart’s White Carrara or Cararra Santorini to keep the farmhouse chic vibe going.
