I wanna talk about quilts, baby

February 15, 2011 by Kim Woodward

I knew I wanted to make a quilt for my sister-in-law’s baby shower, and I actually got started early enough that I was able to finish with plenty of time to admire it.

I ripped this quilt off from my girl Jenny at Anything Pretty. 100 percent. Not my idea. But, I’ve loved it since I saw it and knew I wanted to try it for Ron Santo.

The quilt top came together really easily. I used a charm pack of Kona Bright Solids and a white jelly roll for the sashing. That’s a lazy woman’s quilt, but I’m still darn proud of it.

For quilting, I went with tight (semi-straight) lines for the sashing and diagonals for the colored squares.

I also added a few tags on the back so Ron Santo never forgets his favorite aunt and uncle. 😉

Overall, I’m very pleased with this quilt. Definitely reminded me of the enjoyable parts of quilting. And, it really is fun to be able to give something homemade.

What do you think?

The quilting totally made that quilt! It is perfect! I plan on remaking it sometime and I am totally copying you on that….so we can call it a Jenny and Kim collaboration!

I’m so overwhelmingly impressed by this! I mean, I know lots of people quilt, but I just don’t seem to get the knack of such a long term project. What an amazing gift!

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! I may be able to knit and crochet, but quilting still eludes me. I want to make a baby quilt so bad though! I just need to get rid of some yarn projects first…..

Kim. That’s spectacular. Seriously GORGEOUS!! I love the rainbow colors. L.O.V.E. LOVE

This weekend I just started my very first quilt (ever!). The thought of cutting big pieces of fabric into little pieces of fabric only to sew them back into big pieces of fabric never appealed to me until one of my dearest friends got knocked up. All of a sudden I just got the urge. Hope it turns out as good as yours!!

It looks beautiful and the quilting is so perfect! I wish my girlfriends would request quilts for their babies, I would love to make another one someday soon. Although I could do without the binding, it’s so tedious. xo
