I really love having a mantel

October 25, 2011 by Kim Woodward

It’s pretty awesome to have a fireplace mantel. What fun! And while I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to styling a mantel, I gave it a valiant effort.

I decorated the porch for fall. I added some spooky mice to the stairs. But, I still have tubs of fall decorations in the basement.
Can I tell you a secret? I just wasn’t feeling it. The whole idea of getting everything out when we’re just working to get settled into the house was too much. But I couldn’t avoid bringing some of my favorite things out for the living room. The corn cob wreath my mom made, my burlap pumpkins, the harvest blocks, some fake leaves…
Now I’m really digging the mantel space and I’m not feeling overwhelmed with tons of “stuff.” It’s feeling more like fall with every fake leaf, isn’t it?
Do you dig it?

That makes me want to curl up with a hot mug of apple cider and a book. Very festive! I can’t wait to have a mantel!

Yes, I definitely dig it! All the colors look great. I really like how you added your bouquet on the mantel, it blends well with your other decor:)

It looks gorgeous. Like something out of a catalog. “I’ll take everything in the picture, please”.

I’m not feeling it this year either… Jan has had the kitchen torn apart for a week now installing lighting. Everything is covered in dust and insulation. He finally got everything wired correctly today, when to put up one of the lights, and “crash”, pieces of the pendant all. over. the. kitchen. Boo. We’re having a Halloween party on Saturday and the house is a disaster. Happy Fall.

I need you to come to my house and decorate for me. No one would notice the mess then.

I think you’re a natural mantle decorator. It’s like you’ve been decorating mantles all your life. The scale, the placement, everything…it’s lookin good. I, too, wish I had a mantle. And a fireplace. I’ve been trying to decide if the fake ones are fug or not. My dad has one that he’ll be looking to get rid of so I could score one for free if I drive to Illinois to get it. Hmmm, drive to Illinois? I know someone I could go visit to get mantle decorating lessons!

I don’t have a mantel in real life but in my dreams my mantel looks something like yours except my kids have drawn on the pumpkins, the leaves are on the floor, and everything is covered in dust. Yeah yours looks way better than mine lol.

I’m totally jealous! I *wish* we had a mantel! So badly, in fact, that I’m considering having J bring in the buffet that matches the hutch-that-I-hate just to have a surface to decorate for holidays!

Kim, loved the framed wedding piece with the dried bouquet. So pretty!

And the entire mantel is gorgeous and enough to give you that festive feeling without being overwhelmed this year. Great job!
