Fast fall decor: Pumpkins in a lantern

October 14, 2013 by Kim Woodward

I am a bit of a holiday decor hoarder. If you’ve been around for any length of time, you know that we have a basement filled with bins of holiday decorations. But while I do have lots of fall decor, I also love modifying some core decor items throughout the year. That’s the case these lanterns. Some of you spotted my little lantern decor on the fall porch.

Those two red lanterns from IKEA stay outside all year. And each season, I wipe them down and add a new filler. For fall, it’s mini pumpkins and gourds. (And yes, despite the appearance of dust and grime, I did wipe these down and clean the glass before filling them with pumpkins.)Lantern1

I think this is so much more fun than a simple candle and adds a bit of seasonal decor to the space. It also reminds me of how I used to fill our window boxes with pumpkins in the fall.

Anyhoo – this was just a little tip for those of you who still want to add a little festivity to your home for fall. You don’t have to get new stuff. Just fallify your existing decor.

Happy Monday, friends!

It’s the simple things! I have a tendency to over-complicate things and projects. I would never think of this, but it’s so simple and beautiful! Great idea friend!

I love fast and simple! I’ve had my eye on some similar lanterns. It may be time for me to just bite the bullet and buy them.

Such a great tip! I’ve never really decorated for fall before so I had planned on buying a bunch of new stuff but maybe I should rethink that plan!

So lovely!!! I just filled up a lantern with gourds this weekend, too! I love your red lantern, I am inspired to paint our silver ones. 🙂

I am obsessed with little gourds…I thinK i’d buy them rather than food at the grocery store. Love how they look in your lantern

very nice! I keep meaning to do the same thing with some big glass vases I have, but I never seem to get around to it (because putting pumpkins in a glass vase is really taxing for me, apparently!)
