Fall porch decorations and all the pumpkins

October 3, 2018 by Kim Woodward

If you are new around here … sometimes I have a tendency to go a little “overboard.”

Case in point: Pumpkins.

The truth is – I just want to acquire them all. A few pumpkins is never enough for me. I just feel like more is always more when it comes to pumpkins.

An upcycled treehouse for Henry

September 19, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Ryan and Henry have been talking about building a treehouse for YEARS.

Since we moved into the barn, the two have been plotting and planning what the treehouse would look like, where it could go, and what they would do inside.

But there have been so many projects over the past few years – the barn, our new house and the rental properties. Not to mention work that had to be done to settle into our home and to clean up the property itself. It just seemed never-ending. And the treehouse just got pushed back.

But it was never far outside of their minds. And this summer, Ryan and Henry spent countless hours together working on the new treehouse together.

Perennial gardens – an exercise in patience and planning

August 22, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Gardening, like many things in life, requires patience.

It may look “okay” when you first plan and plant. But it takes years before it really comes together in the way you plan.

All that to say, our late summer gardens are positively exploding with colors. In the Midwest, late summer means some of my very favorite perennials – black eyed susan, coneflower and limelight hydrangeas.

Gah. I just love them. I will pull over for wild flowers at this time of year.

Easy summer curb appeal tips

June 27, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Every year, we take some small steps to improve the curb appeal of our home. After building our own home two years ago, our yard was pretty much just dirt.

So every change – no matter how small – makes a huge difference in making the front of our home look a little more welcoming and beautiful.

Painting a picnic table with chalkboard paint

June 14, 2018 by Kim Woodward

Paint, Craft, Eat.

That would be the title of our summertime memoir, if I wrote one. It may not be as exciting as “Eat, Pray, Love,” but it’s a huge part of our summer days at home with kids.

And as summertime has swung into full gear, Henry and I have been spending lots of time on the back porch working on projects during Lucy’s nap times. This spot is perfect for painting, crafting and eating.
