I found the recipe for a basic hamburger at Peace, Love and French Fries. It is truly the yummiest hamburger. The Worcestershire gives it extra juiciness and the soup mix and steak seasoning give it great flavor. The recipe easily makes eight good-sized hamburgers. I wrapped the patties in freezer paper and put two in a quart-sized ziplock. So, this will make four meals for Ryan and I. (I freeze extra hamburger buns, too. That way they won’t go bad before we eat them all.)
The Basic Burger (8 burgers)
from Peace, Love and French Fries
2 lbs ground beef
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp grill seasoning (I used Kansas City steak seasoning)
Combine ingredients with hands. Divide meat evenly, shape into patties. Grill over medium/medium-high heat for 10-12 minutes or until they reach desired done-ness.
Please make these. You will thank me.
Do you grill a lot in the spring and summer?
Kim,
I never got around to making these last year (buying pre-made patties is just so easy!). But I made a batch a couple weeks ago and my hubby LOVED these!!
I bought 6# of ground beef on sale this week and just made up a stash of burgers for the freezer tonight.
Thanks for sharing, these will be a staple all summer long.
You have got to try some burgers made with the sake sauce for Williams-sonoma- so good!
You’re welcome!!! I’m glad you liked them, they are our favorite go-to in the summertime!
They sound so simple and yummy and I will have to take LizzeBeth’s suggestion of adding dijon mustard.
Yummy! Do you freeze burger buns? We always have extra since it’s just two of us. My favorite burger recipe is just ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, and mozzarella cheese.
My brother’s MIL made some very similar to this the weekend before last and they were DELISH!!!
Sounds delicious Kim!!! The next time my grass fed beef guy has a special I’m totally stocking up on hamburger….and making THESE!!! Did you see this recipe over at Beantown Baker today? http://www.beantownbaker.com/2010/06/fire-roasted-ketchup.html
Would go great with your burgers!
Add two tablespoons of Dijon mustard.
YOU will thank me 😉

Oh, and our favorite burger recipe calls for worcestershire, lots of garlic and feta. Yum freaking yum.
Oh yum! I never thought of freezing actual burger patties – just freeze the meat for a later date. Brilliant.
We grill all.summer.long. And your hamburger recipe is super similar to the one we use. We also chop a half onion and a couple garlic cloves and throw that in. Oh – and an egg yolk. YUM. So so good.
I could go for a burger right now. At 8:30am.
The other weekend we had hamburgers and I froze the patties that we werent going to cook up. I wrapped mine in parchment paper but I think I might need to pick up some freezer paper the next time I’m at the store.
What’s your method for freezing hamburger buns? Do you individually wrap or just toss the whole bag in the freezer?
I swear, you only make things I’ve never made in my life. I’m shamed! Buuuutttt, I have been in the market for things I can make and freeze. And heaven knows I could eat a packet of onion soup mix by itself I love it so much. So this I will do. ANd I will report back and tell you how awesome you are.
sounds delicious. do you and ryan like blue cheese? my favorite buger involves stuffing it with blue cheese. i think ina garten has a recipe. delish!
