What to Know Before Building a Home

Are you building a home? Or maybe dreaming about building a home?

In my opinion, building a home should be a multi-year planning process. Even if you have a wonderful builder and general contractor, it’s still your responsibility to make sure the home fits your family’s needs and checks all the boxes. Because while some things can easily be changed, other things are pretty permanent.

4 things I miss most about living tiny

It’s been just over a year since we expanded our living space from 320 square feet to 1500 square feet. (In case you are new around here, we converted the loft of an old barn into a small apartment to live in while we were building our house.)

After living in such a small space for about 18 months, the move was a very welcome change. But there are a few things I miss about living small. Here are some of them.

Many days, I clear all of the junk out of the frame and take a photo of our home that comes out looking quite nice (if you ask me). 

I hope you already know this: It’s all a mirage.

Because most days, I’m in the middle of a scene that looks a little more like this.

Maintaining a home brings plenty of responsibility. Sometimes, it feels like the work of a homeowner is never really complete.
 
That’s why, to keep our home looking it’s best, we spread out maintenance and deeper cleaning tasks throughout the year. We find that these simple cleaning and habits keep the house presentable for everyday use.
