A fall living room

October 3, 2012 by Kim Woodward

I have a tendency to go overboard on holidays. As you’ve heard me say write,  I subscribe to a “more is more” mentality. But this year for fall, I’m changing my ways. I feel like I’ve done just enough to make our home feel cozy. But I’ve stopped short of making it gaudy and overwhelming. In short, it’s simpler and I like it.

It all began with these pretty pillows from Marshall’s. I needed a little change from our summer look. The vibrant colors spoke to me. They told me to bring them home. What could I do? When pillows speak to you, you ought to listen.

I still kept the gingham patterned pillows from the summer. It’s a little crazy to keep such different patterns together. Totally not me. But, I’m digging it. And those small pillows are perfect for baby propping, an act that is very important in the Woodward household. And navy is sort of becoming my favorite color.

Yeah. I bought the bird pillow, too. How could I not? It matches our sofa perfectly.

The pillows gave me a needed push to get all the other fall decor out of the basement. The lighting isn’t great, but don’t you love the coziness of the room? It’s perfectly fall-like for us.

And here’s our mantel. Have I mentioned how much I love having a fireplace mantel? It is THE BEST.

I always get questions about the “Woodward” sign. It’s a window from our first home. When we installed vinyl windows, I saved this one and made it a large piece of artwork with vinyl. Easy. Peasy.

The “W” pumpkin was a gift from our friends Jon and Ann.

I have a little plan for that window between the windows. Don’t worry, I”ll keep you posted. Plan on something before Henry graduates from college.

And did you spot that pretty afghan on the chair from our Junk Bonanza trip? I. Love. It. It’s such a nice fit for our home.

I still have a little I’d like to do this fall for decor, but it’s a far cry from the first year I decorated our home for fall. Which is kind of funny, because many of the elements are the same. I just scaled everything down. I have tubs of fall decor that I’m planning to get rid of soon. No need to keep stuff I don’t need. I’m in the mood for a major purge.

More fall decor tomorrow. I know. You are totally on the edge of your seat.

Do you like my approach this year?

It looks fantastic! The pillows are great! I desperately want to get out my fall decor, but it means I have to take down my Auburn stuff and I can’t figure out what to lose and what to keep!

It looks so cozy, Kim! 🙂 I wish we had a fireplace, but it’s our “wish list” for the next house! There’s something so cozy about a fire!

I am SO jealous, Kim! Those same exact pillows spoke to me at Marshall’s (several states away in Virginia), but I didn’t get them and when I went back they were all gone.

Fall colors are so cozy. Love it. I have yet to decorate with my fall items. The tub is out, but I just haven’t pulled the trigger. Maybe with the snow that is predicted in the next few days I will get going!

I love it! The only thing missing to my eye is your pugs. 🙂 It would have been absolutely perfect if they were both in the shot. But that is just me. 🙂

I love it. It does look really cozy! I’d like to come hang out there. : ) My fall decorating has consisted of pulling out my Autumn Wreath candle. I’m pretty dedicated to the decorating, as you can tell.

Too much stuff makes me nervous so I’m digging the less is more.

I am madly in love with those pillows. Were there more? I don’t like that I must fight you for home goods. 😉
