In less than a month, my little girl will turn two. So I figure it’s the perfect time to share the photos from her first birthday – a pumpkin patch party for our sweet little lady.
I don’t know if there is a respectable time frame for posting photos after a party, but I’m sure it’s not 11 months. But there are a few TOTALLY VALID reasons that this is so late.
- I spilled water on my computer while uploading party photos last October, which ended up meaning I didn’t actually get many photos and had to buy a new computer soon after. I was VERY displeased. I had just deleted the photos from my camera, which meant I couldn’t recover them.
- I sometimes wonder if anyone really wants to see photos of actual, real-life kid parties anymore. There are so many perfectly coiffed photos out there.
- I’m a little lazy.
See. Totally valid reasons. Moving on.
It’s feeling more like fall, so I thought I would finally share them. Because this could be a great party theme for fall.
Money-saving tip: I love throwing parties that tie into the seasons because it makes your decor budget stretch a lot further. In this case, I was able to use all our fall decor for the party. I purchased much less – mostly just pumpkins from the local patch.
And even if you don’t have a birthday party on the horizon, this party also has some sweet details that I think could be fun for home decor this autumn as well. Like, all the FLOWERS. Flowers + Pumpkins = LOVE.
So without further ado – my little one-year-old at her pumpkin patch. Sob! She’s so little and so bald! I can hardly stand the cute.
In addition to the orange and white pumpkins, I sprinkled in black and white buffalo check and pops of pink. It all came together beautifully. It felt seasonal, but also girly and playful.
The tables and chairs were set up in the garage, and it ended up being a nice day (thank goodness, since there were 60 people at the house). Each table has a pink tablecloth and a floral pumpkin. I added gold monograms and 1’s to the pumpkins.
I already had the buffalo check napkins, which were perfect under the pumpkins.
The weekly photos of Lucy were displayed on some pallets we had in the barn. I also blew up pictures of Lucy at birth and at one year and put them into frames we already had.
We keep this chalkboard in the garage all year and I simply added some milestones to it. On the big wall, I created a DIY buffalo check design with 12×12 pieces of scrapbook paper. It was such a simple way to pack a punch. (I stuck them up with sticky tack. A few fell down but it was a temporary solution.)
All the flowers are faux peonies I had in my stash. To make a faux arrangement without cutting into the pumpkins, just wrap the floral stems around the pumpkin stem. This allows you to keep the pumpkins much longer. They would easily last all season.
Are photo backgrounds still popular? I always like to have them at our kids’ parties. I try to get a photo of all the families who attend. It’s such a fun way to see how families grow and change each year.
For this background, I just hung a cloth dropcloth to cover some wood stored in the garage. I added a rag banner above and some hay bales, pumpkins and a chalkboard in front. Easy and cute.
For a kids’ activity, I bought small pumpkins for all the kiddos and set up a pumpkin decorating station.
It was super fun and kids of all ages loved decorating pumpkins and taking them home! Just add some paint, stickers and googly eyes. This would be a great playgroup idea for the fall!
My little pumpkin seemed to have a good time at the party. Although she loved her cake most of all!
Can you blame her? The best part of any party is the cake.

I’m glad that you posted this when you did because we’re doing a fall themed first birthday for our second little one, Rosie, and this was some great inspiration 🙂
