It’s TIME!
Time to deck the halls and trim the trees and fill the stockings and gulp the eggnog … ALL THE HOLIDAY THINGS ARE HAPPENING!
Do you go a little crazy this time of year? (I totally do.)
It’s like I black out and I’m knee deep in garland and twinkle lights. Don’t get near me or I may just toss glitter at you. Everything is better with a little glitter. (Am I right?)
I’m sharing our living room all decked out today. This has really become the heartbeat of our holiday home. It’s where we spend time together and hang out with friends and family when we entertain.
It’s also the home of our main Christmas tree.
I love how this tree turned out.
I placed it inside a really rad galvanized bin. I purchased mine from Magnolia Market last year – but this year, you can pick one up at Renegade Roost, which is a store local to me in rural Illinois.)
To keep the base secure inside the bin, I used bubble wrap and blankets wrapped around the bottom.
The bin lifts the tree a few feet, which also gives it more presence in the room. (Our ceilings are 9 feet tall and the tree is only 7 feet.)
I decorated the tree with loads of red, white and silver – almost all of which I’ve had in past trees. The ornaments, poinsettias and bows were actually from our wedding 9 years ago.
I created the sparkly “joy” sign this year as part of a craft night with my college friends. (The “joy” word was purchased in the Target Dollar Spot.) And I created some snowman faces on plain white ornaments, as well.
I topped the tree with a giant snowman hat I bought after the holidays last year – it’s the perfect finishing touch.
The glowing lights bring a little sparkle to the house – even when it’s been so gloomy outside.
Here’s a peek at the other side of the room.
Lola is super impressed. She’s a fan of all the pillows I don’t let her touch.
I moved the pew into the entry and filled it with more pillows. Above, we hung the DIY barn wood card holders.
Can’t wait to start filling those up. (That means you can start sending your cards anytime, thank you very much.)
And I even managed to sneak in a Christmas cow and a red barn (both were gifts from my friend Kellie).
I love red in our home all year, but it really becomes a red-a-palooza this time of year. I’m not mad about it.
So, that’s a little tour of our living room. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

I hope you’ll stop back to check out the rest of our holiday home tour. (Check out the fireplace! And the kitchen! And a holiday gallery wall! And a buffalo check dining room table!)

I love the tree, it looks so fabulous!
Didn’t you say you were never going to move that cabinet inside the front door, because it weighs a ton? Where was it relocated to? I used to have a pew. I miss it.
I was wondering about the pups. I haven’t seen them in a while. Lola is a cutie pie.
Kim Woodward says
Ha. I don’t think it will ever come OUT of the house because it’s one piece and hard to move.
I probably did say that but I lie a lot. 😉
But seriously, I just put it on a towel and slid it across the floor to the new home.

Thank you so much, Laura! I hadn’t even thought about the bucket until I had it all the way up and I’m glad I ended up putting it inside. Makes it fun and a little different than what I’ve done in the past.
