I enjoy planning events. Luckily, I have the opportunity to do it a lot in my career.
But, I’ve never had the opportunity to help with a baby shower. Until now.
My lovely aunt is hosting a baby shower for her daughter-in-law, who is expecting TWIN BOYS. (Gasp! Two…boys…together? YIKES!)
But, I moved past my own fear of having two children…at the same time…when she asked me to help plan a killer-banging-one-helluva-time baby shower.
My aunt had already purchased these onesies for the twinsies, so we jumped at the chance to host a “Thing 1, Thing 2” baby shower.
(Are you dying over how adorable these are? If you aren’t, you best go check your pulse. STAT!)
The shower will be the first weekend in September, so we got crackin’. My first stop was – of course – to touch base with my bff Google. I could have sworn I remembered seeing something about a Dr. Suess-themed party. And, Google did not disappoint.
I came upon Stem Parties and her fabulous Thing 1, Thing 2 baby shower. We are definitely sticking to a red, white and turquoise theme, so this gave us great ideas for decor.
And, the invites she made really sparked my imagination.
So, with this theme in my mind, I headed to Michael’s for supplies and put together some “all-that-and-a-bag-of-doritos” invites. Here’s what I came up with (with the above inspiration in mind, of course).
Toot! Toot! (That’s me, tooting my own horn.)
With twins on the mind, I decided to channel my inner Martha and make some more decor. I picked up some tissue paper and made these pom-poms that everyone shows off in blogland. I found packs of tissue paper at Target in the exact colors.
They turned out super cute, and with only $2 of supplies, at that. And, I spent less than 5 minutes on each one. Talk about a simple project. I’m planning to make several more, and the small ones will be nice for napkin “rings.”
Toot! Toot!
I’m still working on a few other decor items, and I will share those soon. We also just might have the most exciting dessert item to go with the theme. Are you dying in anticipation?
What do you think?
Do you have any more ideas for decor, games or food items to really ramp up this theme?

And of course, the “guess how big mama’s belly is by using toilet paper”. Then you wrap each guest’s piece around mom-to-be and whoever’s closest gets a prize. It’s always good for laughs.

When I decide to add to the world’s gene pool, you will be my shower coordinater, mmkay? Please and thank q.
I keep thinking of packs of Double Mint gum as favors. Is that lame? Nothing could top your ideas!

Adorable! It makes me wish I knew someone having twins so I could plan such an event. Note I said someone else having twins….I like to leave the super hard work to other people. 🙂

That’s a very cute theme and the invites are adorable.
I learned at my annual visit to the gyno that the first month you’re off birth control you have a higher rate of conceiving twins because sometimes both ovaries ovulate because they’re excited about being hormone free, or something along those lines.
The craziness us women have to endure.

How fun! Love the Thing 1, Thing 2 theme. Your invites are adorable! Definitely toot-your-own-horn worthy! Can’t wait to see what else you cook up!

Ohh, forgot to answer your question. Baby shower games I like: Pinning baby paraphernalia to a receiving blanket (pacifiers, bottles, onesies, etc), letting people look at it for 30 seconds – 1 minute and write down everything they remember seeing. Give everyone a bracelet (or pacifier attached to ribbon if you’re going with the baby theme). If you hear someone say “Baby/Babies”, “When are you due?” “Are you excited?”, whatever you decide – you can steal the necklace/bracelet away. Person with most collected at end of party wins a prize.
Games I hate: Smelling melted candy bars in diapers. I have told my friends/family members that I won’t attend their showers anymore if they play that game.

Ummm, so cute! Love the theme. I love the invites, decor, everything. And the onesies trick my ovaries into thinking they want to reproduce right now. They don’t.
