Life or death issue in process.
It’s time to vote for your favorite red striped rug for our kitchen. You know, the kitchen that doesn’t yet exist.
Yeah. that kitchen.
First, consider the following photos for striped rug inspiration:
(Olives and Daisies)
(Unknown)
(Unknown)
I love the classic look of a white kitchen with a striped rug. I wanted to use red as the accent. So, now I need to decide: Wide stripes or narrow stripes?
As you know, this decision is not to be entered lightly.
So what do you think?
WIDE STRIPES?
(in red)
(Ballard Designs)
or NARROW STRIPES?
(in red)
(Dash and Albert at CSN)
Help me make a decision. Then, I can make the less important decisions, like cabinetry and countertops.
Please and thank you.

My vote…however late…is wide! Thanks for the great inspiration photos!!
I am probably too late to the party….but I vote wide! Now you got me all excited to see it!
I like the wide stripes. I think they make a nice big statement. I have a wide striped red and beige striped rug in my kitchen, and I really like it!
Wide stripes! Wide stripes all the way!!!

Wide!!
I like wide! I particularly am in love with that rug in the last inspiration picture you posted…any idea where that’s from?
I’m sure you’ll make it look great no matter what you pick though 🙂
Narrow!
Narrow to me says more ‘traditional’. Wide to me says more ‘modern’. I say… go with both 🙂 [im seriously no help… I really like both of them].
narrow!
If you’re going with red, I would say narrow. The wide red rug sorta reminds me of “The Cat In The Hat”. I love the wide rug in navy though.
Narrow!
I like the wide ones, looks cleaner and pops more. In my opinion. However, I wonder if narrow would hide dirt and paw prints better? PS- I love my silestone countertops, totally recommend them.
Narrow get’s my vote! Good luck 🙂
I say wide. And that’s all I have to say.
I love the title of this post!
Narrow! I’ve loved that Dash & Albert rug for years. Please buy it so I can live vicariously through you!! 🙂
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm………..I like them both! If I have to choose, I guess I vote narrow. Good luck. Whatever you pick, it’ll look like a million bucks!
i have several dash and albert rugs and absolutely love love love them. go with their rug. you will not be disappointed.
Wide!
I really love the wide stripes, but Katie may have a point with the whole Where’s Waldo thing. Maybe you could holdout for some free shipping, order both, then just send back whichever one doesn’t work?
I love the wide! The narrow is nice, but there is something about the wide that draws me to it more.
Wide stripes, definitely.
Love stripes…good choice! I would go narrow. Can’t wait to see what you do.
I like the rugs that are a combo of stripe sizes…I guess you are calling that Narrow…so my vote goes for narrow.
Oooh tough decision. I like both. 🙂 Not much help am I? I love stripes, so I don’t think you can go wrong!
My vote would be narrow red, but you also know I change my mind too much and am a poor decission maker! But for today I say narrow red 🙂
it depends on your style. i think if you are going more country, then the narrow is good. modern, go with wide. both . . . go with your gut!! lol
Love stripes! Def. the wide.. they are more bold!
I would normally say wide, but in this case I think that the wide may to bold.
The narrow would be more timeless.
This post is hilarious! I vote narrow!!…but I’m kind of boring so keep that in mind. 🙂
I like the narrow stripes. I love the beige/gray wide striped one in the last picture, but only if it’s in that color… not red. Good luck!
Narrow! I love the wide stripes but I think they’d be a bit too much and too modern in red. The D&A rug is fab and so classic!
I vote for narrow! THANK YOU for posting that last photo. That lighting fixture is about identical to one I’ve seen in IKEA and wondered how it would look over my sink…that picture is really close to how my window/sink are laid out. So, unrelated, but thanks!! 🙂
I’d love to pick your brain for some lighting ideas if you’re willing. 🙂
I think the Dash and Albert would look great.
I’m strongly anti-death so I suppose I have to vote! I think I’ll go with wide. Much more dramatic.
I like the wide much more! I think the wide projects a more modern feel and the narrow feels more traditional, so maybe it depends on what look the rest of the kitchen is going for.
If it were any other color but red I’d say wide. I love the wide gray stripes in that last inspiration photo. But I’m afraid the wide red stripes are too ‘Where’s Waldo?’ so I really vote narrow even though I like the look of the wide better overall…
I think the narrow will balance the big bold stripe look in the dining room (which I absolutely love by the way). In any room but the kitchen, wide. In the kitchen I’d go narrow.
I like the wide stripes {preppy!} but the narrow ones seem more “you”.
I love the narrow stripes, but then again, I never like wide stripes, on walls, rugs, curtains, shirts… 🙂 I know that which ever you end up choosing will look fabulous though!
My vote is for wide! More bold, bigger pop! Love red in a kitchen!
Wide. I LOVE the wide stripes!
i vote wide.
narrow, in this case.
btw, that title. i couldn’t help myself. i had to come over. life and death. i mean, come on. you can’t let that go. 😉
xo*tricia
p.s. yes, i did forget how to use caps. lazy today.
Narrow. And, as an added bonus, I have a Dash and Albert rug in my kitchen that I can just throw in the washer when it gets dirty. Bonus!! I’m not entirely sure the rug is meant to be washed in a washing machine, but so far it has worked like a charm.
Narrow. Unless you decide to do a black rug instead, in which case I would do wide. 🙂
Narrow. I was going to say wide, but I love that last rug you showed. Classic and homey.
I vote narrow; I just think it is a little more timeless. Love that Dash and Albert rug…
First of all, I love EVERYTHING about that first picture! Ahhhh!
Second, I think I’d vote for the narrow stripes just because I’d be afraid that the wide white stripes would absolutely collect/attract stains and spills. In my mind, the narrow stripes would help make stains and spills less obvious.
I LOVE the WIDE stripes…but I have to say it’d be easier if I knew what the rest of the kitchen was going to look like 😉
Biz
I like wide stripes and I cannot lie.
You other sisters can deny…
I was going to do the whole song, but it is far to taxing on my brain.
But I do think the wide stripes will look great in your kitchen and make a fantastic, bold statement.
I vote wide!!!
The narrow is more pleasing to my eyes in those two pictures, BUT I think wide would make a nice accent piece in the big picture of the entire kitchen. Then again, you have more of a country style, so im back to voting narrow….
Wide Wide Wide. Although, Caroline has the Dash and Albert Rug in Blue and it’s fabulous, too. I like the graphic statement of wide red stripes in a white kitchen. In fact – there’s a wide red and white striped rug in a kitchen in the latest This Old House Magazine – Caroline has it if you can’t find it, I’ll scan it for you or something.
Wide stripes, definitely.
I have a kitchen that lives in my head, too. It’s AWE-some! Wish I could invite you to see it. 😉
I like wide…
I love these looks! I think the wide stripes have more of a classic look, I would go with that one. Good luck!! 🙂
I love all stripes. You can’t go wrong in my opinion.
If I had a laundry room like the first picture in this post, I’d probably wear 12 outfits a day so I could do as much laundry as possible. Beautiful.
I think narrow will go more with your home’s (and your!) style. It’s a more grownup look–the wide stripes are more modern and might look out of place.
I like the narrow stripes (and I love that Real Simple rug). They seem to be more of accent. The wide just sort of jump right out at me 🙂
I say go for the wide. It will be a great bold statement in your kitchen. Can’t wait to see what you decide.
Wide. So modern and cool
I love the poppytalk photo I’ve had it linked for weeks… so I guess I’d have to say wide lol.
Narrow! I’m in love with the House and Home laundry room and the Real Simple entryway now, thankyouverymuch!
Love the last rug, too!
I like wide stripes–but you can’t go wrong with either one. I know…I’m so helpful. 🙂
i don’t want to die so….narrow! 🙂 Good luck, loving watching the renovations unfold!
I vote wide!
