The barn files and property updates

July 17, 2013 by Kim Woodward

Remember the last time I talked about the barn building? No … well that’s because I haven’t updated you since October, when Ryan and friends poured concrete. Last fall, he actually got the walls and metal roof up. But the snow started flying before he could get any further than wrapping.

After finishing the rental property, Ryan was itching to get back to finishing the barn at our acreage. So now we’re back at it. And by we, you all know I mean Ryan. Right?

He took the week of the 4th off and finished the soffits. Which, on a barn built over a hundred years ago, means lots of custom cutting.

Then, it was time to add the barn board nailers before the siding.

Ryan, my brother and dad started putting up the wood siding next. Can’t wait to show you how it’s turning out. But for now … check out how cute this barn is.

Which, you may have noticed … WE HAVE A DRIVEWAY! We have been waiting since last fall. It’s 600 feet long so this was a project we hired out. Thank. The. Good. Lord. A neighbor actually has an excavating business so he did this all in a day. It would have taken us weeks with a skid loader. You all know that we typically don’t like to hire out jobs we “could” do ourselves. But this was worth the money.

It’s nice to have a driveway. And I should also mention that we also have an address now. Hurray!Property update July 20132

Our little guy also loves the property. He enjoys visiting.

Okay, he mostly just likes the Gator.Gator2

He’s a pure boy.

P.S. This is our view. Not so bad.

Looking good! What is your timeline for house building? We are thinking of buying property and building so I’m curious what you are thinking time wise.

We’re hoping to build next year, but there’s no true timeline. We have lots to do before we can start – find a house plan, dig a well, get electricity … =)
