So many unfinished projects

May 5, 2015 by Kim Woodward

We have had very little rain in the Midwest this spring. Like, almost none in the entire month of April.

And then, on May 1, it started raining.

Why is this significant?

Because our county/township has weight restrictions on our roads through May 1. That restriction kept trucks off our roads. Which has kept our basement from being dug and foundation poured.

So May 1 was the day. And then it rained. And it’s been raining steadily ever since.

Good for the garden. Bad for our timeline. And my sanity.

I am aware that it’s only May 5. But I was expecting to be almost done with the whole house by now.

Kidding. (Sort of.)

So I’m working on my patience. And as we wait for our contractor to have a clear few days to dig and pour the footings, I should be working on all the almost-finished-projects I’ve started.

(Ha. Ha. Ha.)

Instead of doing that, I’ll just lament the unfinished nature of everything we have going on. Here are the projects that are so-close-but-not-done-yet and when I expect to share the projects.

The laundry room

Our tiny little laundry room is so close to being finished. We’ve finished painting and trimming out the window. Ryan built a rolling cart for storage. Now, I just want to finish a little painting detail on the cart so I can take some pictures and share.

ETA: Sometime before December. (Kidding. Maybe next week?)

The window boxes

Ryan built me four flower boxes for the barn windows. I painted them and Ryan hung them yesterday. Now I just need to touch up the paint and plant some flowers.

ETA: Prior to Henry’s college graduation. (Kidding. I hope to have this done by the end of the week if it ever stops raining.)

The “under-deck” area

You may recall our small patio project – it’s looking really good and is almost ready to enjoy. We added mulch and started assembling some decor. But I still need to paint the big barn door and deck braces.

ETA: Dear God, who knows? STOP PESTERING ME.

The garden

In the Midwest, our frost-free date hasn’t arrived, but our garden has already come a long way.

Ryan tilled the huge area and it looks amazing. The soil is so much better than last year. And then we started planting some of the cooler weather crops – radishes, lettuce, onions, peas and beans. Next up are tomatoes, peppers, corn and pumpkins.

Plus, I’d like to work on some garden markers.

Am I the only one who has a gamut of half-finished projects around me?

It sounds like you’ve got a lot going on at once.

We love it when we get a good gully-washer. Rain is such a blessing. So many folks have too little. I hope the rain transforms your garden!

No worries, it’ll all get done when it is supposed to.

Right? I just want to be in the new house by the weekend. Is that so much to ask?

In a word…..NOPE. You are not alone. I think my last three posts are all about things I’m in the middle of!

Ugh. I used to be better about seeing projects from start to finish. No more.
