Small changes

February 9, 2010 by Kim Woodward

On Saturday, I finally decided to touch up the paint in the dining room. I hadn’t actually finished since we installed wainscoting in October. Actually, I didn’t have any paint left for the living/dining rooms, and then I bought the wrong type of paint (I needed satin but bought semigloss – duh!). So, I touched it up, but it looked horrible up-close. I finally picked up the right paint a month ago. And, I finally got around to touching up on Saturday.

That would be making a short story long.

And, once we had all the furniture moved, I realized that I had *rarely* (if ever) cleaned behind the hutch. Yeah, that was disgusting. And, then as I was cleaning behind furniture and wiping down the baseboards, I figured that I may as well move all the furniture around while I’m at it.

So, Ryan helped me do a little rearranging. He’s a good man. He hardly even rolled his eyes.

Before wainscoting:

After wainscoting:

And, after shuffling the hutch, the corner unit and the grandfather clock – here’s what it looks like:

Now, I can see the clock from the front door…

and I can see the black hutch from the  kitchen.

All-in-all, it was a good change. It kinda wards off my desire to buy new things by rearranging what I have.
And, I probably shouldn’t buy anything else. There really isn’t any wall space left in the dining room.
Do you rearrange furniture in your home often?

Adoring the new layout!! Now come over and help me.

Our house doesn’t allow for much moving around layout-wise so, I envy you. Add this to my list of envy’s…..aren’t we at #57 now?

The wainscoting looks terrific! Love that light fixture, too. And yes, I love rearranging furniture. But most of our rooms are very small and the furniture only fits in certain ways, so that’s kind of frustrating.

I love the change-a-roo of the furniture. I think it really works.

I absoutely love the tote bags from your previous post. My favorite is the green one. I am going out asap (or as soon as it stops snowing) to buy placemats!

I LOVE rearranging my furniture! It makes me feel like I have a whole new house.

We are supposed to get about 2 feet of snow tomorrow. I think I might try to talk the future hubs into letting me rearrange the boudoir.

I don’t do alot of rearranging. I work so hard to get it how I like it. Assessories on the other hand are constantly changing – sometimes weekly!

Your dinning room looks great, you did a good job.

p.s. love your red and white centerpiece.

I am too lazy to do much rearranging, but I know I need to! Such a difference your wainscoting made. 🙂 It looks great after you made some changes with the furniture placement. Question: did you paint your table? We have a very (!!) ick country table in our kitchen that looks a lot like the one in your photos. My husband won’t let me paint it, but I think if I show him your photo he might change his mind. 🙂 Yours is great!

It looks great! I move stuff around alot. My husband knows better than to ever walk through the house at night without a light on. He never knows where things will be from one day to the next!

yes, like you said, rearranging is like getting new stuff! or maybe I’m just indecisive 🙂

it looks good! it’s always nice to rearrange for a fresh look. i always want to do that, but the silly way our house is layed out really leaves little room for moving any furniture (so i have to deal with it by moving accessories)

The wainscoting looks so nice! It really makes the room look so much more open. I’m jealous!

The wainscoting looks great. I like the color on top, it makes it pop. We move our furniture around every so often, but our rooms are small squares- so there are only so many options.

Wow, LOVE the wainscoting and I really like the new furniture arrangement. It feels more open, at least from what I can see.

I love to rearrange furniture! In fact, after our painting episode I tried to COMPLETELY switch the living room around, but until we can move the TV to the basement it just doesn’t work.

Still drooling over the wainscoting. : )

Kim! A small change at my house would be hanging a new frame. Adding wainscoting to make a great dining room even more amazing…now that is a big change! Love it.

P.S. wainscoting is a funny word.

I hardly ever change furniture- except at Christmas time. When I do, I think “Well, there was a reason I had it there in the first place – it looks better.” I don’t have many options. Your dining room is gorgeous!

We changed our furniture in the living around and I like it a lot more. I do believe you have also inherrited this trait from your grandma though. She loves to paint and rearrange also. It looks wonderful. Great job!
