Simple Valentine’s Day decor

February 2, 2018 by Kim Woodward

What’s that? February?

I’m sorry. It just turned 2018 yesterday so I’m not sure how it’s already the second month of the year.

Decorating for holidays is one of my “things.” It’s just something I do. And with kids, there’s just something so fun about changing up the house for every holiday. Henry loves it as much as I do.

So, Valentine’s Day is officially IN THE HOUSE. (Do the kids still say that?)

You know what’s great about Valentine’s Day? It is all about the color red.

Wait, what? It’s about LOVE? Oh, yeah? That, too.

Simple Valentines Day Decor

I have a small bin of Valentine’s Day decor that we pulled out. And honestly, I live for the color red so I basically just mixed my red stuff around and called it a day.

There can never been enough red in our house, thank you very much.Simple Valentines Day Decor

The open shelves in the kitchen got a hefty dose of LOVE.

This is a fun spot to decorate. Because the shelves are one of the main pops of color in a white kitchen. My strategy is just to throw everything up here that I own and then hope it works out. After a week or so, I just decide it’s fine the way it is. It’s a pretty advanced method. Simple Valentines Day Decor

You want in on my other secret for simple Valentine’s Day decor? I just don’t take down Christmas decor and call it a day. I mean, these picks have red. Simple Valentines Day Decor

Plus I added the wooden words (that I’ve been meaning to paint for a year, no rush). So it’s totally Valentine’s Day appropriate. I make the rules. And it stays.

Similarly, the bucket on our basement door kept the berries from Christmas. Add a pink sign, and BAM.

See the pink lantern?

Henry learned to make them at the library and kid can’t stop, won’t stop. They are everywhere. It’s like when his mom learns a new craft and everyone gets a pillow for Christmas. Hypothetically.

There is at least one lantern in every room of the house. Usually more. And when we went to grandma and grandpa’s house, I saw four hanging in the kitchen.

Because four makes a COLLECTION. And we are all about collections around here.

The corner dining room hutch also has a few cute pieces to our already red decor. The table has a runner, and lots of art supplies and notebooks that are just outside the shot. Because I’m a professional.

The truck is from My2Heartstrings on Etsy. I have one for most holidays. Remember – collections. Simple Valentines Day Decor

This mixing bowl is always out, but I especially love it for Valentine’s Day. (It was from Red Envelope, many years ago.)Simple Valentines Day Decor

Our mantel also got a little Valentine’s Day update. I leave the window up all year and just add whatever I want to it. This is pretty simple with a pennant and paper doilies, but I like it. We could all use a reminder to LOVE MORE, am I right?

Did you see the lantern on the right? They really are everywhere, in the best possible way.Simple Valentines Day Decor

Taking out decorations for the seasons is such a fun surprise. I always forget what I have. It’s like the holidays all over again, only I bought the gifts and stored them away. I found this heart garland years ago and it still looks like new.

Simple Valentines Day Decor

I made the fun fabric garland on the secretary last year. (And I think I want to do something similar for my Christmas tree next year. Yes. I know, I’m not supposed to talk about Christmas until 4th of July. Give me a break.)Simple Valentines Day Decor
