What are your “pushed to the bottom of the list projects?”
Painting our outdoor chairs has been on my list for a year. But it was just something I never got around to. It was always low priority.
But no more. Here’s where I ruin the surprise and show you the end result.
I was planning to do paint everything last summer and I never did. Then it was the coldest winter in the history of the world and those poor sweet chairs sat outside in the snow and cold, feeling unloved and forgotten.
The Adirondack chairs were originally from Ryan’s parents. They had seen better days and my mother-in-law wasn’t interested in repainting them. So, I swiped them up and let them get even more scruffy over two years.

And our metal patio chairs were past the point of needing paint. They were downright embarrassing.
And this is from a distance so you cannot really see the ugly. I’m talking caked on dirt, two layers of chipping paint, and even a little rust. We hardly used them, because you’d have to bathe afterwards. Which is inconvenient.
These guys are old chairs – the middle one belonged to Ryan’s parents and the two end chairs were in my papa’s shed for God knows how long. I painted them almost exactly six years ago (and even blogged about it here).
But, on Saturday, I decided that enough was enough. These chairs deserved LOVE.
I should have been cleaning the house. But, instead, I turned my attention to the outdoors. I sanded the outdoor furniture as well as I could, then I power washed them and let them dry. Next, I got out my trusty paint sprayer and got to work.
(Note: If I were a perfectionist, I would have sanded them to death and really made the perfect. I’m not (a perfectionist). And I didn’t (sand them to death). I did what I could to get them ready to paint. But, that’s just my lazy girl disclaimer.)
I used BEHR MARQUEE Exterior Satin Enamel in Caicos Turquoise. The color is nearly a perfect match to our turquoise accents at the barn deck. I love the satin sheen and it’s designed to resist dirt. Which is pretty important when you are talking about exterior furniture in the Midwest. It could actually snow tomorrow.
You think I’m joking?
I’m not joking.
So, until the snow falls, we’re enjoying our fancy little fire pit. The pop of turquoise looks so stinkin’ good, my friends. It’s like a completely different space with the mulch.
These will go to the barn when our house sells. But, I think they give the outside space a little more sell-ability. Don’t you think? #sellthisbloodyhouse
I love the shell detail on these.
And as for the Adirondack chairs … they are more beautiful than ever. These guys will eventually find their forever home under the deck at the barn, for the perfect relaxing spot in the shade. But for now, they hang out in our backyard. I also painted the little metal table and added some pillows (that were actually purchased for the barn).
And the third chair is sitting pretty on our front porch. (I’m actually sitting here as I write this post.) I also repainted the porch floor while I was in my paint clothes. (I’m telling you – painting crazy.)
Now, these sweet chairs are back to their original glory. Only better – I mean, CAICOS TURQUOISE!
Disclosure: As a Behr DIY Expert, I was provided with the paint for this project. But no one sent a professional painter along. (Must have been a mistake. There’s always next time.)

I have similar motel chairs and fire pit. I tried to spray the dull turquoise chairs purple and two years later they are half finished and chipping. I was in Home Depot yesterday and saw the Pantene color of the year. I swooned because it was so me. I want to spray paint my chairs and ran across your blog. I am inspired but, not a Behr DIY expert.

How I know we’re internet best friends: we both paint our old patio furniture teal. That’s all it takes for us 🙂 But seriously. I never wrote a post about it, but I used all the left over paint from the trailer and sprayed our patio set to stage our house to sell.
Love that color! The chairs look amazing!
LOVE the paint color! Snow? Seriously?
Well, sort of seriously. I wouldn’t be all that surprised with the weather we’ve been having.
perfect color choice- so so fun! i have a pair of adirondack chairs that need major love…. major love. if you want to come give it to them….
I’m a lover and a painter.
Paint is the most amazing invention ever! Nicely done, Girlie! I’m not gonna list the projects I’m putting off, though. I’d take up too much space in your comment section!
Ugh. I feel you. We finish all the projects we’ve been putting off just in time to move. Doh.
Such a happy and fun color, totally gives me the smiles!!
Awwww…. that makes me happy.
It never fails to amaze me what a little paint can do. Gorgeous color choice!
Thanks, Dawn. I always avoid these type of projects and then wish I’d have done them earlier. Paint is a magic eraser.
love the color you chose. these will look great at the barn!
I sure hope so. I can hardly wait to bring them out there.
Such a fun color!!!
Painting crazy is a good kind of crazy!
I agree. I don’t know what took me so long to embrace my inner turquoise-lover.
Awesome choice of color. I just had the master bathroom and two walls of the master bedroom painted turquoise in the house we are getting ready to move too.
I as so looking forward to putting the final redecorating touches on both rooms.
Pretty! It’s a great bathroom color.
I would totally buy your house the second I spotted the turquoise chairs! Such a fun color 🙂

I really do adore this color. Something about turquoise just brightens up any space.
