Painting the weekend away

February 16, 2009 by Kim Woodward

Oh yeah…I did it. I painted our dining room set.

Thanks to all of you who voted on the blog to choose the paint color. While there were other great suggestions, I ended up going with the majority and choosing black. I agree that it probably blends better with our existing room (rug, sconces, curtains). I love white, but it’s probably a little too casual for the room as it is. And, I don’t wanna change the room… yet. =) So… thanks again to all of you. You are like my personal decision making machine.

And the dining table and chairs look FABULOUS!

It went from this…

(Do you notice those scratches all over the chairs? Lovely…)…

To this.

What do you think? It looks so amazing in person. The oak grain really shows through. It looks lovely.

But, let me tell you – those chairs were a pain in my patootie. Every one of those spindles was my worst nightmare. Thankfully, my gram came over on Friday and Saturday to help. Then, I put the last coat on today. I’m going to let it cure for a day and then put poly on the top to protect it.

While I was picking up black paint, I saw some green that caught my attention. So, I painted the end table while I was at it.

I think it’s cute. And, I like that the pretty hardware shows up more now.

So, my next project will be this baby:
I’m going to paint it black to match the table and take off the wooden hardware and change it out for something brushed nickel.
But I’m gonna give myself a few weeks before I get started. I need a paint break.

Kim, this looks AWESOME! I know about spindles being a paid — I painted one chair that had them, and it about killed me! I can’t believe you finished all those spindles in one weekend!!

I can’t wait to see the china cabinet with its new hardware — its going to look completely different!

5 Stars!!!!! The table looks great. I have been debating about painting my kitchen table for awhile, but keep putting it off because 1. I cant decide between white and black and 2. I think painting the spindles on the chair will be a beast. I did (hubby) just finish painting my coffee table and side tables black though. I have to take a picture of them to post on my blog but I have to clean the living room first.

OMG it looks phenomenal! Love the black – and on the chairs? Oh wow. It makes the really intricate chairs seem so much simpler, but still interesting. I cannot wait to see the hutch black, and that hardware is fabulous.
