Outdoor lights (and the dead deer)

December 4, 2008 by Kim Woodward

Don’t worry… it’s not a real deer.

I wouldn’t talk about that.

Although we do see them often in the roads by our house. It’s sad.

This is the dead deer I speak of. My beloved lit deer.

I grabbed it out of my neighbors trash last year. She was cool with it. It worked okay once we fixed it up.

But, now it just keeps falling over. Then the lights on its antlers broke.

(it looks pretty ghetto, right? I don’t care. I still love that deer.)

Since I compromised with Ryan and told him that I wouldn’t guilt him into putting lights on the house, he is solely responsible for keeping our outdoor lights up and running.

That includes the deer.

Real conversation:
Kim: “I need you to keep tabs on that dead deer. It needs to look alive.”
Ryan: “That could be a full-time job.”
Kim: “You know how much I love that deer right?”
Ryan: “Yeah.”
Kim: “So, you’ll take care of it?”
Ryan: (mumbles under his breath)

He’s also pushing my limits and my patience by setting the timer to go on later and turn off earlier than I would like. I would leave the lights on 24/7 if it wasn’t ridiculous.

Here are the rest of our outdoor photos. The pretty arrangement that I made with the wooden sled in Ryan’s parents’ attic. (Those are our pew bows, btw. Love dual purpose)

The fence with garland.

And the backyard lit up.

Isn’t it pretty?

I love the white lights.

And a close-up of my three trees.

And my front door lit up.

(I need to get rid of that pot in the photo. Any ideas of what I can do with it to make it wintery?)
Repurposed wedding wreath and pew bow.

And, there’s my tree.

So, what do you think?

More Christmas decor photos to come.

It looks great! I love the ornaments hanging in the window. How did you attach them?

You could get a little mini tree with lights to go in the pot. More outdoor lights for Ryan to deal with 😉

I dug out the exact same sled from my moms and I am putting a real arrangment on it. I got the idea from a local craft fair. We also did garland on our fence, but since the fence is a mile from our actual house we dont’ do light! Yours all look so great!!!!!

Love it! And the snow makes it that much prettier. Your red door really pops. I think my favorite (no offense to the deer) is the garland on the fence!

Kim, your house looks beautiful. I love the garland around the door and in the back, and the wreaths. Gorge!
