New hardware in the barn apartment

October 13, 2014 by Kim Woodward

If there’s anything that makes a kitchen feel finished, it’s the hardware. It’s like the jewelry to a nice outfit.

And, oh, does the barn have beautiful jewelry or what?

Now we just need a faucet and a stove and we can stick a fork in this baby.

For hardware, I wanted something that pulled out the black of the brackets and the stove. So I chose the Black Cup Pull for the drawers and the Flat Black Knob for the doors.

They play nicely with everything else going on in here.

Both the pulls and the cups from D. Lawless Hardware and I couldn’t be happier with how it brings the whole space together. (And both of these choices are seriously affordable – only $1.85 and $1.00 each. If you’ve shopped for hardware lately, you know this is insanity. In a good way.)

Before moving on, can we just spend a moment drooling over these countertops? Or am I the only one having all the feelings here.

Okay, then. Back to those sexy beasts I call the cup pulls. I have to publicly thank Papa Bear for installing these. He’s really going above and beyond to help us get this space finished. Matte black hardware D Lawless08

And this little hardworking corner is just waiting for a tiny little microwave. Because I may be able to live without a dishwasher. But not a microwave, folks. I’m not that crazy.Matte black hardware D Lawless01

When I was choosing hardware, I decided to use the same knobs and pulls in the living area. It’s such a small space that I think it gives it some continuity.

Here’s how the entire space is looking today. Not too shabby.Matte black hardware D Lawless12

For 320-square-feet, we have some serious storage going on. I’m taking bets on how long it will take me to fill it all up.

3-2-1

FILLED.

Would you have gone with black hardware?

Thanks to D. Lawless Hardware for providing the knobs and pulls for our barn apartment. The pieces really helped everything come together in the space. And thank you for supporting NewlyWoodwards sponsors to help make posts like this possible.

How much in total do you think your barn update cost? I’m looking to upgrade mine into an apartment and rent it out.

I think once the barn was built, we probably spent around $10,000 to upgrade everything for the apartment.

Love them! they’re perfect with the gray. And your counter is so beautiful and shiny 🙂

I noticed the countertops right off. What kind of wood is that? Gorgeous!
The hardware really brings it all together. Great choice.
I can’t wait to see you on Tiny House Nation!

It’s actually pine, but was stained and Waterloxed by our friend. It’s truly gorgeous.

Good choice. You’re so stylish. I can’t wait to test out all of those drawers the next time I’m over!

I would not have thought to go with black hardware (even though I have it in my own kitchen)–but now that I see it in your space, I see that it was the perfect choice! It really does add the finishing touch. And what a great price–we have a huge kitchen and hardware was a major expense. I’m bookmarking your source for next time!

Thank you, Denise! I am embarrassed at how much we spent on (very very similar) hardware in our current kitchen. These versions were beautiful, very sturdy, and inexpensive. Win-win-win.

Great choice on the hardware, Kim. I think I am just as excited as you to see everything come together for you! (Okay, that is probably a slight exaggeration, but still.)

It is turning out so nice but I wouldn’t expect anything less from you Kimberly! Perfect choice for this cozy new home!

This is looking great! And hardware always gets me – I budget way less in my head for it than it actually turns out costing. When we redo the bathrooms, I will keep these in mind.
