Today is an extra fun day. Because a few of the Behr DIY Experts (myself included) are sharing fun projects featuring colors using the Behr 2015 Color Trends.
These are projects using some of the coolest and on-trend colors for 2015.
Each of us all tackling projects on our to-do list – getting a head start on this year’s DIY Resolutions.
My project was all about tackling and adding some function and form to our living room built-ins. If you remember, Ryan built these drawers and shelves into the wall to get us tons of added storage. This serves as our entertainment area and also the majority of our storage for clothes.
They look “chunky” from the front, but it’s really just a mirage.
Then, I needed some drama – perfect for a new paint color. I chose Behr Seared Gray from the 2015 Color Trends Palette. (Find all the colors online or pick up your own brochure at Home Depot like I did.)
I chose Seared Gray – a deep, moody gray-blue. It looks almost teal in some lights, almost black in some lights, almost navy in some lights, almost slate in some lights. I love it so hard. I had it tinted in MARQUEE, and away I went.
I kept the fronts of the new open shelves the same color as the walls/drawers (Behr Dolphin Fin).
Then I painted the inside of the shelves in Seared Gray.
Here’s the transformation …
On the shelves, I added some poly for a bit of durability. And then I (im)patiently waited to add some things to the shelves. Most of our decorative items are in storage, but I found just enough “stuff” to be pretty and practical.
And the pretty artwork above (a sweet gift from my friend Michelle at Making Our Dream) is in front of a small basket that hides all our remotes and small gadgets.
I added the (faux, of course) plants to the front of the box. Because it’s prettier. But mostly because my son likes to get all the DVDs out and spread them all over the floor.
On the top shelf, I was able to store some of my jewelry, which makes it easily accessible to me and out of Henry’s reach. I’m also thinking about adding some hooks below to hang necklaces. (Do you spy Ryan’s high school ring? Love.)
I think it’s a pretty great transformation – from blah to WOW. Just a little paint can make a huge difference, right?
Now, don’t take off just yet. Check out some of my amazingly talented Behr DIY friends and their color trends projects.
